Worth the walk but beware it is more difficult than advertised. I have bad knees and the walk back was very hard and not really at your own pace. All in all its beautiful

A bit of a drive from Austin (nice scenic drive) but worth the trip. Hike down the side of cliff area to hidden pool and caves. Very interesting history of area and beautiful walk. Wear hiking shoes and bring water. Takes about 2 hours in all. Nice photo spot.

I've lived in Austin for eight years and just read about Westcave Preserve in a book about off-the-beaten-path spots in Texas. After taking the tour, I believe that this place is one of the best-kept secrets of Central Texas. The tour costs $10 per person, and knowledgeable guides take you through a savanna, wildflower meadows, by the Pedernales River, along... More

A great little hide away. $10 each or $25 for a family. A guided hike that takes about 1.5 hours round trip. You start at a savannah and make your way down to a rainforest like grotto and cave. It's like stepping into another world. Our guide Casey was very knowledgeable and her passion for plants, wildlife and The Preserve... More

Guided tour given every two hours (but there's a short hike/promenade you can do while waiting), this place was a great gem located just beyond the Hamilton pool area. You learn about different plants, rocks and wildlife, and the waterfall and cave area are really beautiful to visit. You feel like you're no longer anywhere near Austin (but it's still... More

Wonderful little jaunt right outside of Austin. Casey was an amazing and incredibly knowledgable tour guide. I would definitely go back to this spot or take people who come into town to visit.

My husband and I took a short weekend trip to Austin last weekend and decided to visit the Westcave Preserve. It was one of the most enjoyable parts of our trip! For only $10 each, we enjoyed a beautiful guided tour a 1/2 mile down into the preserve, a tour of a cave and a waterfall area, and a 1/2... More

The country drive was great as well as the scenery on the way. We got there right after the 2:00 tour, so we hung around and waited for the 4:00. Should have gone to a nearby area, but we weren't sure how far or how long that would take so we just waited. And there is NOTHING to do while... More

This hidden gem is the most beautiful formation around Travis county. A grotto and pool similar to Hamilton pool across the river/ down the road, but you can't swim here. No one has in 37 years, the guide says. Pristine.

We saw this on an episode of Daytripper and decided to go. It is well worth the effort. The Preserve is near Dripping Springs, west of Austin, and right next to Hamilton Pool and Reimer's Ranch. The visitors center is near the entrance, and features fossils, a few artifacts, a solar calendar built into the floor. The highlight is the... More
