We were in Austin evacuated from Hurricane Ike and had some time to kill with a bunch of small children. Zilker Park and the Zephyr in particular were an easy choice. We've taken our kids on the miniature train many times over the years and it never disappoints. We have ridden similar trains in many other cities and this one... more

The Zephyr is a tiny miniature train which gives a lovely 25 minute tour of Austin's fabulous Zilker park. I've been on this train a few times over the years, first with a date, then with my husband, then with my one year old nephew. All enjoyed it equally as much. I recently got to ride the zilker zephyr again for the first time in many years. It was beautiful, and great to see it was still there. The prices were: Infants under 1 year-FREE Kids Under 11-$1.75 Seniors 65 and over-$1.75 Adults and Kids from 11-65-$2.75 It was a scenic ride, about 25 minutes total. The conductors seemed very nice... more

Contrary to info above, the ride is not free. Last time I went (2001), it was $1.75. The run is about two miles; the depot is adjacent to the Barton Springs pool and concession stand. After departing, the train passes through the playscape, along Barton Creek, under a road bridge, then along the hike/bike trail to Town Lake. The soccer... more

The Zilker Zephyr is a first class miniature railroad operated in Zilker Park on Austin's southwest side off Barton Spring Road just east of the MoPac Expressway.
