We were limited on time so we didn't have time for the 90 minute free tour of the gigantic Capitol building. But we did have time to tour the grounds and the interesting visitors center where a very nice gentleman gave us some great tips on where to visit in the city.

We joined a tour but after a few minutes we got lost. It didn't look well organized or very interesting. First we went to the 2nd floor and after a couple of minutes we went to the 1st floor again.

We got to Austin and decided to visit the capital building, and very glad we did. The tour is free and meets about every 30 min given by a tour guide. The lady who we got was wonderful, she knew allot of Texas history and was a great story teller. The capital building is a beautiful place and the gift... More

I highly recommend visiting not only the Capitol building itself, but also the Visitors Center on the southeast corner of the grounds. It has a wonderful (yet brief) overview of early Texas history, and is in an architecturally significant building to boot. Don't pass it by!

I've been here a few times, and it's always fascinating. Beautiful grounds with a park-like atmosphere, followed by an impressive tour. Great way to work off lunch if you're downtown. Might wanna bring some money for the gift shop, as the souvenirs are very good quality, and distinctly Texan. And bring a camera.

It was a hot summer day. Spent a couple of hours strolling along the Capitol state building and surroundings. This is a great place to take a break while feasting on historic feeds it has to offer! Admission is free. Staffs are incredible, courteous and helpful. Ample of great photo opportunities, for shutter bugs like me.

After D.C., to me this is the best Capitol. The overall building and architecture are magnificent. You must see it if you are traveling to Austin/San Antonio.

I've seen lots of state capitols in my life and yep, this is just another one, except for the fact that this is Texas, my home state. Even so, it is a beautiful capital and yes, somebody made sure it was bigger than everyone else's. Come on down and see it.

Plenty of info, free information and maps to take away, even nice stickers for free. Then you can go on to the capitol building which is also free, either self or guided tour.

Lots of great exhibits here and friendly folks as well. Pick up maps of the capitol building and the grounds and other local info as well.
