Of the numerous times my hubby and I have visited Austin, we had never passed the Texas State Cemetery just east of downtown. We decided to loop back to the cemetery after our errand was finished and found an absolutely fascinating and beautiful place. The rolling elevations and water features make it very interesting, and I'm sure when the roses,... More

The Texas State Cemetery is the final resting place of countless soldiers, politicians, a famous Texans of note. The grounds of the east side cemetery are very well kept and walking around the property brings a sense of solitude. There are even cenotaphs for some famous Texans like Tom Landry and heroes like Chris Kyle (American Sniper). Mostly, it's an... More

The Texas State Cematary is a beautiful Cematary located east of downtown Austin just a 10 minute bus ride away. Free tours are available as well as self guided audio tours.

Lived here for four years and pass the cemetery often. Rented some Austin Bcycles with son and took a little tour. This cemetery may be one of the most beautiful and historic I have ever visited. Too bad we arrived just shortly before they were closing the gates...so going back to finish the tour.

Beautiful. Beyond imagination. Some of the most important Texans from many generations are buried here. Texas icons! Plan on spending at least an hour here. Parking is limited to say the least. READ UP ON IT before you visit. The history is so rich. The most famous people are buried in the middle of the cemetery on the top of... More

One can't help but get goosebumps when visisting the Texas State Cemetery. Makes one proud to be a Texan and walk amoung other well noted Texans. I was so happy to see Tom Landry's gravesite. If you enjoy visiting cemeteries, please go to this one.

This is a beautiful, parklike cemetery with grassy knolls, a stream and tall, shady trees. You can't help but feel Texas pride when strolling through these hallowed grounds. Many very important Texas historical figures are buried here. Barbara Jordan, 3 Legged Willie, Ma and Pa Ferguson, Ann Richards, Jacob De Cordova, James Michener, James Frank Dobie, Fred Gipson, many Texas... More

Beautifully maintained cemetery where many famous people of significance to Texas are buried & honored... from Stephen F. Austin to Tom Landry. Plus Civil War section, similar in appearance to Arlington National Cemetery. Free and excellent displays and video at visitors center; free admission; free audio tour. We wished we'd had more time to spend there. Would definitely go back... More
