If you are just traveling through Aiken it is really something to see. The exhibits are very interesting &, if you're a native Aikenite they change frequently. Ask about the history of the estate. All the volunteers are very knowledgeable & friendly.

So much has been written by other contributors about this beautiful and friendly place already; I echo the fantastic comments on here. Just wanted to give the lovely Gayl (volunteer in the gift shop) a mention as she is such a kind, helpful and friendly person - along with many of the volunteers here she will make your visit special.... The museum is located in an old, cool, historical building near the Winter Colony, off of South Boundary. Lots of nice exhibits about the history of Aiken, upstairs is a little room that kids will enjoy checking out. There are docents there who are knowledgeable and helpful, a cute Gift Shop where you can purchase neat and unusual items, as... More

An absolute must for visitors and residents to visit. Very hospitable volunteers and some of them are incredibly gifted explaining all the wonderful exhibits as you go from room to room to room.

I love the Museum. Ok, I admit it, I love the Museum store most of all. I always find a bargain or gift that's just right. But love the rest of it, too. I'm there once a month at least. Displays change, quilt ones are fantastic when there. Lots of local history.

Being new in town, we were surprised to see how many famous people who have passed through and/or lived here over the years. Politicians, war heroes, Hollywood stars, and sports figures have made an impact on the town and are immortalized in the museum. The museum also sponsors special exhibits from time to time and we especially enjoyed the annual... More

A wonderful Museum well hidden away in this very historic town. Full of fantastic history ranging from the American Civil War through to its wealth from attracting snow birds from the north due to its climate at the turn of the 19th century , its golf and horse riding through to the current day nuclear recycling and tyre manufacturing plants... Nice low key place at your pace to get local lore. Spiel about Fred Astaire was very interesting and did not know he was a golfer.

The museum was phenomenal. I was delighted by the volunteers that met me at the door and spent the time to tell me about the history and the exhibits. I loved the gift shop, and especially John Abbott, who showed me pictures of his home, "Oak Knoll" that were displayed in the museum. The personalization by the Museum vlounteers is... More
