My husband and I got married in these gardens, and they are so uniquely beautiful. They were given as a gift to the city of Aiken by the family of Hope Islein (sp?), who wintered here. The towering oaks shade the serene gardens and foster a feeling of peace and tranquility. It is such a special place, and it would... More

Those is a beautiful park in the middle of it all. Our family enjoyed strolling through on our visit to Aiken. The map (available at the entrances) is not to scale and is confusing and there are no signs within the gardens but the beauty far outweighs such details. We enjoyed relaxing on the wooden swings, strolling the paths, walking... More

My wife and I are in Aiken, from England, to visit our son and his family. Our son took us here for a walk around. Unfortunately we are not used to the South Carolina heat so could not enjoy the gardens as much as we wanted to and only saw a small part of them. Even on such a short... More

Sorry to say, Hopelands Gardens lost a lot of huge trees and branches in our February ice storm. It's not as shady as it used to be, but it still has plenty of magnificent old trees just sure to impress. Walking paths wind around between and under the trees. Beautiful! There are ponds and waterways with turtles, ducks, and gigantic... More

What a beautiful place and I could go there everyday. I was disappointed that the museum was not open during the week.

Our group was on our way to Augusta for a day trip. Decided to stop here because the #1 ranking for Aiken. The garden sure earned it. What a beautiful setting!!! On a Monday morning, there were hardly anyone in the garden. We walked by many of the gardens, reflection pools, the stage, wildlife area, and the rose garden. Saw... More

Perfect place to take visitors who want to stroll but not hike! Lovely in every season, but especially nice in spring when all the flowers are blooming and in December when decorated with thousands of lights for the Christmas/Holiday Season.

Behind the tall serpentined red brick wall along Whiskey Road to the east and Dupree Place to the north hides the 20+ acres of Aiken's premier location for serene, natural beauty. Delicate floral aromas of roses, camellias and magnolias tickle the nose. Listen to the songbirds signing their melodies against a backdrop of water splashing among the fountains. Gaze in... More

The plus is that the gardens are free, so it may sound a bit ungrateful to downplay a free attraction, and we do usually love parks and gardens. We spent about a half-hour walking around, but we were disappointed because we expected more cared-for, landscaped gardens. We may have hit it at the wrong time. We were there in early... More
