Probably the best $2 you can spend - tour the pier - get great views, watch some fishermen and you can also get a cold PBR with a cushioned coozie for $1 - great place to go at night after dinner!

My son and I wanted to do a little ocean fishing but I was afraid it would be too expensive. I checked out the Avon pier. We were staying in Hatteras Village, so it was a short drive. The prices were fair, we didn't need tackle or a license. Our equipment rental included shrimp as bait. The pier is nice... More

A walk on the Avon Pier is a truly amazing experience. There's nothing quite like it. Weathered by storms, it's anything but straight or level. And that's the appeal. The people working the office/tackle shop are always friendly and helpful. We've never fished off the pier, but we always take a walk on it when we visit the island. I... More

Came here our first day| . Beautiful views, good people. My husband fished there several times. Good prices in shirts and fun bracelets. Nice guy working in the front had lots of info to share.

Been to Avon before, but never visited the pier. Mainly just for fishing, can rent poles at the marina there. You are charged $1 to walk out onto the pier and you can return as many times as you wish up until midnight of that day as long as you keep your ticket. Cool to see all the people fishing... More

It's beautiful there, but the pier is in bad shape. It's uneven and slopes down on one side and with it moving I think there's a safety issue there. I can't believe they let people go on it.

Love this pier. The employees are friendly and helpful. Always an interesting time on the pier people watching and seeing what everyone catches. No Mich biting the day we were there except skates. Did see a good sized hammerhead shark caught at the end of the pier though. Decent time!!

Man, what a rickety contraption! The Avon Pier may be venerable, but I have doubts about its safety, especially after visiting the well built and maintained Jeanette's Pier in Nags Head. If you're brave, pay your fee and walk to the end for a beautiful view of the beachfront.

Some of the best sightseeing in Avon. Perfect spot to see the ocean front of the village. People are always fishing. Apparently there was a recent change in ownership and they are getting rid of their souvenir selection...which is fine, there are plenty of places to find souvenirs, but, if you are reading this...keep the Avon Pier selection!

Avon pier is a wonderfully located spot. You have several vacation rentals, restaurants, gift shops, and a gas station within walking distance. The fishing isn't bad either. We caught several different spices of fish while we were there. Black tip shark, drum, stingray, croaker, and flounder. Im sure it would depend on what time of the season you went on... More
