Great history trip. Never knew how many wars Fort Macon was involved in. If you go, taking the tour with the tour guide is so worth it. They give insight on things that you probably wouldn't have known if you went on your own. Our tour guide was far from boring. He was very knowledgable and hilarious. Told great stories.... More

One of the best parts, it's free! Make sure you see the 15 minute film before you begin. We saw the film, then started with a tour guide, and then went on our own. Very interesting exhibits, and tons of history to absorb. I would allow a couple of hours to see it all.

30 years of going to Atlantic Beach and we never went to Fort Macon. It's free, offers beautiful views and a good history lesson for adults and kids. There is a great little movie to watch before actually visiting the fort that gives you great insight.

Fort Macon has an array of artifacts from when the Fort was up and in battle! My son loved seeing and touching the cannons and walking where Americans in the past had fought for what their beliefs were. The history lessons learned there, along with the amazing views and simple museum brought up great conversations about American history in our... More

The park as located at the very end of Atlantic Beach. The park is free year round. There is a beautiful visitor center that looks newly built near the front of the fort. It was fun looking around the fort at all the various rooms. It was interesting to read the history of the fort. Fun trip if you like... More

Took my grandson to the fort for the afternoon. He and I had a really nice time looking at the fort and it was a nice finished to be able to walk over to the beach afterward. Definitely somewhere everyone should go if you have time.

Everything was great at the fort (exhibits, tour, guest shop). Was expecting a ho-hum experience but this was a great time and well worth the trip.

This museum is so well put together and interesting that my kids ask to go back every year when we visit Atlantic Beach.

Fort Macon, (see my review about it), is a real state treasure. The beach is clean and neat with good facilities, lifeguards, etc. There are numerous picnic shelters as well. No charge for any of it.
