Fort Macon State Park is one of my favorite places on earth. There is a tranquility, a serenity there despite (or maybe because of) its violent wartorn history. Every fort I've visited has a sort of sacred peace about it possibly due to the lives sacrificed there, and Fort Macon is no exception. The beauty of the ocean, sound, river... More

This fort offers history lessons and scenic views. Be sure to check out the visitors center for information about Fort Macon and the North Carolina coast. Then head into the fort and be sure to climb the steps to the top for breathtaking views of the ocean.

They did a pretty good job making an interesting display from a pretty basic fort. Definitely worth the hour to visit. And it's free :)

Fort Macon is a well conserved site and interesting place to Visit. Even though it was really hot, still you can go and see exhibitions that have air condition. I really recommend this to Visit this Fort, because it has a great history. Enjoy your trip to Fort Macon!

I have been visiting Fort Macon State Park for about 50 years and the experience has never been better. My 8-year-old grandson accompanied me and I was surprised he enjoyed the visit so much. The visitor's center is first rate and the short movie is a must-see. My grandson loved the interactive aspects of the museum in the visitor's center... More

Take the opportunity to drive out to Fort Macon if you are staying in the area! The Fort itself is well-cared for and still in great shape. It was a functioning military post as recently as 1944! It has a fascinating history that is easy to learn about through the adjacent museum and various exhibits. Plus, you can take in... More

My family visited, and it was a fun visit. They have showings every half hour of the history of the fort, and then you can walk around and explore the fort. They also have tours at specific times of each day, which we didn't hit it at the time to catch a tour (they seemed to start every few hours).... More

Beautiful beaches and trails. Bath house available. Plenty of free parking. Nice for walking and exploring around the Fort. Great for kids of all ages, from babies to teens. Fantastic place to do family or couples pictures. Tons of cute little places and corners to explore that make great photography. I did my engagement pictures there. They also offer some... More
