Typical fort with limited ruins, but not bad. The fort makes for a nice afternoon family visit, but does get very hot.

A new museum has been built since my family was last there. It has introduction movie, gift shop and excellent displays about history of the fort. The museum and fort is spotless clean. On site park rangers very helpful with answers to questions. Would recommend for any age and will definitely go back.
If just for a day,or by chance you get there too early to check in a wonderful place to spend the day, clean showers and then ck in APATB for a wonderful vacation
Getting insight on the fort from a volunteer-led tour was a highlight, although folks can tour on their own. It's free. It was nice learning the reasoning behind the fort's design. Fort Macon has no admission. Exhibits are well-done.
We had a wonderful day exploring Fort Macon. We visited on a weekday, so the crowds were thin. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the ocean views are just stunning! A must see when visiting the area!

This is a great place to take your family, have a picnic and learn some history. We toured the Fort on our own and it is set up to do so easily. The staff was extremely friendly. You can walk the perimeter of the Fort and the day we arrived there were many flying kites. There is also a beach...

My husband and brother-in-law enjoyed this, although it was too hot and long for me and my sister-in-law.
Traveled from Beaufort to Atlantic Beach to visit the Ft. Macon State Park. Large, interesting museum and exhibits within a fort dating to the Civil War, right on the coastline. Public access to the beach right across the street. Is among the top 10 state parks I've been in in any state. Just fascinating. Easy to cover in a couple...

My husband and I are not military history buffs, but for some reason we have been to a number of coastal forts, and this one is the best we've seen so far. To start with, there is a large, new building that houses a gift shop and information desk.
What is unique about this fort is that instead of reading...
