I went to the section of the beach that is in the State Park up near Fort Macon and it is beautiful. I was there in June and had no problems getting free parking at the State Park facility. Nice bathrooms and change area, and the beach itself is beautiful. Nice warm water for swimming and none of the commercial... More

Fort Macon is such a beautiful facility! We were so jealous! We have nothing in NJ. And NJ can't or won't afford to do this! Shocked that other states have so much in the way of parks, recreation and family entertainment and education!

We were tipped off to Fort Macon by locals volunteering at the nearby Maritime Museum across the bay in Beaufort. This is a “must see” for the area, very well maintained historic fort with history from the Civil War through WWII. Excellent, up close and personal, displays of fort life and depictions of the fort over its history from design... More

It is a beautiful fort that does a great job showing what life was like for Civil War soldiers. The land is well maintained and there's a nice beach nearby.

Atlantic ocean on one side and the beautiful Fort Macon on the other ! A fantastic historical site to see. You will feel like you are walking among those that battled there. Lot's to see, plus a great gift shop and a movie to start your tour with.

What a great spot open to the public. Beautiful beach, great views of the inlet with large ships coming and going, a jetty, nice dunes and very well maintained.

We only visited the outside of the park. It was very quiet and a great place to get out for a short stroll to stretch your legs.

We visited on Valentines weekend. Even though my visit was a couples trip, it is a great place to bring a family. It was very busy despite the cold, windy weather. The exhibits are very informational and attention drawing. We learned a lot about the coastal area in which its located and the use of the fort during different eras.... More

We had so much fun learning about this place and getting to see the coast guard rescue a sail boat that was stuck in the ocean.
