like other NC state parks, we love this one. There is a beach access area, that has a nice bathhouse (snack shop in summer), with a walk down to the beach. There is a covered sitting area right at the dune if you don't want to go down to the beach. further into the park is the old Fort Macon... More

The fort is being renovated over the last ten years, and it is really something to see now. There are lots of educational exhibits and demonstrations, and you can just plain explore the nooks and crannies of the fort too! Fun for the whole family

We toured the Fort - inside and out - up and down! outstanding exhibits in the Fort. Toured the new educational center that had some great informative interactive exhibits and videos. Just be aware that the Gift Shop closes for lunch 12:30 - 1:30. That is not pre-posted so you could shop first - then tour; they just post a... More

A nice fort, hands on and interactive. Great views. Audio in most parts. Has a visitor center and gift shop. Video presentation indoors and a small museum inside visitor center.

We visited with family, kids age 2-10 and adults. This is a wonderfully restored base, very interesting history and grounds. Visitor center has displays on the area ecosystem as well as the history of the fort and region. All of the kids were engaged for a couple of hours, and the fort is in amazing condition, with displays showcasing how... More

This site is exceptionally well kept. I'e been to many sites like this and most of them haven't survived so well. It's all free with donation boxes. The exhibits are well done, but the real drama here is just exploring on your own. There's a movie in the visitors center and a small museum.

Lots of interesting, rich history dating back to the early 1800s to the 1950s. I have been here once before, but they have really updated the information and area.

While I tagged along with my husband to go to a nearby place for work, I saw this place on the map, we had a very pleasant time here and learned a bit of history.

I've been to Fort Macon State Park numerous times over the years. They have a nice, fairly new visitor center that adds a lot, too. It's an interesting place to look around, and a few years ago, my family really enjoyed an outdoor concert there during a summer visit.
