My husband had been when he was younger, and wanted us to experience what Fort Macon had to offer. We had a wonderful time, the sights are gorgeous, and will be visiting again next year.

We visited the park just before closing. It wasn't a planned visit, but we are very happy that we ventured out there. Once inside the gates, the road out to the fort has a gorgeous view. There is ample parking between the beach and the fort. There is a large visitor's center that was closed by the time we got... More

By far one of the best maintained historical sites that I've visited. The site was nothing short of amazing. The museum was hands down amazing as well. Very easy to navigate through both the museum and the fort. Perfect for the family!

Note. This is a review of the fort and visitor center and not the park or beach. 1. My Expectations. This is my third visit to the fort (over the past 20 years). As a retired U.S. Marine Corps Infantry Officer, I have had the privilege of visiting quite a few other very nice forts in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia,... More

Love Ft. Macon! It is full of history and has beautiful views. Best of all its free! plan to spend a few hours and be prepared to do some walking and climbing stairs.

Nice video and welcome center and gift shop inside. Then walking around an actual fort - seeing real cannons, rooms older than my grandparents, and walking a real battleground, was amazing. And it was all free.

I like history, beaches, and old forts so this was right down my alley. They have done an excellent job preserving and restoring the place. They do such an awesome job of making it alive and interesting. My 12 year old son loved it too. Best place of it's kind that I've been to.

The visitor center is so beautiful. We got there late in the day, so we did not get a chance to have a guided tour of the fort, but we did get to walk around and peek inside some of the exhibits. Great for kids to run around, but a lot of high walkways and steep steps that moms of... More

Love the shooting off of the cannon. It was prepared just as it would have been in war time. Up top is a little dangerous for toddlers and young children

We sat under the shelter and watched boats come in and out of port and watched a tug boat bring in a barge, took two tugs to turn it around and they brought it in backwards.
