I love going here to fish and watch the big boats & yachts coming into Morehead City port. Swimming and wading are not allowed, and this means fewer folks to work around when casting/fishing. This little gem is perfect for us, and we've been in Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan., Feb., June and July.

We knew we would get some history here, we didn't know we'd have so much fun and that it would be one of our favorite stops on our Outer Banks Adventure! Truly a wonderful NC State Park! Great exhibits within the fort, and the fort itself, that it's open for exploration in just about every area, makes it a great... More

Fort Macon is a free historic site you can tour and get an idea of what life was like in a military fort during the Civil War. There's plenty to see and it's a must see for Atlantic Beach. There is a beach access so there's something for everyone.

On Wednesday during the summer they have canons at 4:00 pm to mark the end of the day. Very cool. Our kids liked it and the cute little museum inside the visitor's center.

A lovely beach. There is boardwalk from the parking area to the beach. The restrooms and shower rooms are very nice. There is a snackbar and lockers. Plenty of room to eat by the snack bar if you wanted. (there are also covered picnic tables near one of the parking areas). The beach is wide, flat and very clean. The... More

Good break in the day. Lots of interesting scenes, beautiful location, tons of AC. Time well spent. Very well manicured grounds. Happy kids experiencing history everywhere. (Missed our grandchildren!) Plenty of space.

Every time I'm at the NC Beaches, I take a trip here with the kids. There are free, accessible beaches (mainly for fishing in the inlet), as well as plenty of neat artifacts, canons, a nice new gift shop and historical exhibit building. There is typically plenty of parking, and you are certain to get a lesson on the the... More

This was a surprisingly nice state park. Apparently, it's the most visited state park in NC. The museum portion is very nicely kept up, and it's fun for adults and kids to walk around the fort. There's also a nice beach around there, but you can't go swimming.
