It is very informative and all staff were nice. Great and fairly priced gift shop. Seeing the cannon fired on Wed afternoon around 4pm was one of my daughter's favorite things

Fort Macon is a must see for anyone visiting the southern outer banks of North Carolina. Our boys (<10) love seeing the canons and running along the beach. The beach across the street is part of the Beaufort inlet, where the remains of Blackbeards ship lie beneath the surf. Great place!

Fort Mason is a fort built on a point. It is fun to walk through the fort and seeing how the people lived there. The beach is a nice way to picnic and spend and afternoon. One time when we were there we saw dolphin's up close from the fishing pier. They would come out of the water almost in... More

This is a must do for kids and history geeks like my wife and I. It is free, has a great view of the water, and most importantly VERY informative of how the troops lived here. It breaks down what daily life would have been like and just how bad it really was to be there during the war. When... More

Loved Fort Macon. Any history buff would love to walk through the fort and see the conditions of the fort and see examples of how the people assigned there would live.

Fascinating! I had never heard of it and there is quite a bit of history across several hundred years.

I believe this is the most-visited state park in NC and very deserving of the attention. Always learn something new on each visit and the new, but MODERN (as opposed to period architecture) visitors center has added much to the attraction of the fort. Reenactments and weekly entertainment is also a plus.

Our family of 3 (parents & 8 year old son) enjoyed our visit to Fort Macon. The museum and indoor exhibits were clean and well-thought out, and staff/volunteers were readily available to answer questions. There was plenty to do, and it was interesting. We visited the outdoor areas and went on a short hike. We would definitely return.
