Great historical fort with so much activity over it's life from the civil war to WW2. It is free to visit and has multiple areas that have a recording to listen to what took place. Free guided tours are also available. The museum and gift shop are very nice and you also have great views of the beach.....just off the... More

Large park with lots of beach surrounding this historical place. The fort is very interesting and is FREE. A new visitors center that has movies and interactive displays. And a gift store. Friendly volunteer guides available. Just a good place to go.

I returned to this fort recently, having visited it 30 years ago. This fort is one of the reasons I fell in love with history. It has a unique structure and appealing story that fills one with imagination. Great exhibits, great info. I love the primary documents like letters written from soldiers and the daily log.

Just the right amount of exhibits and history with plenty of room for the kids to pretend they are in a battle. The demonstrations are awesome.

This was quit s feat of Engineering back in the day. And then to learn all the roles it played in History over the years. It is... More

We were at nearby Emerald Isle and had an overcast day and took a ride to the fort. It did not disappoint. Educational movie inside, gift shop and exhibits and the fort itself was interesting. The grounds would have been a good place to sit outside on a nice day.

This is a fascinating tour and extremely well done. As a newcomer to the area, it was very interesting to hear the history from the 18th Century to the present.

In addition to the fort itself (spanning 1820s-WWII), there were very good exhibits in the casements. Some were artifacts in traditional cases, but other casements were set up as the quarters they would have been during the various periods which really added something to the feel of the place.
