This place is interesting as you get to see alot of locally produced products.. as well as imported i guess. Great to see women shopping around, and there are lots of new things to taste and explore. Make sure to grab something to take home with you. try "rihahakuru" a fish made product which is dark brown in color.. fish... More

I visited rapidly the market and it is an interesting place to visit and see local food and traditions. It is really not a touristic attraction but those like me will enjoy talking to locals and tasting the different food. It only takes about 30-40 minutes to visit everything, but it is worth.

Maldives has been top destination spot for tourists from west. This place very highly priced and shop selling goods are all marked up imported stuff (international standard). I went in looking for locally produced/manufactured souvenirs, but disappointed.

Male is a tiny island and so this market is small. It is right across the wet fish market and consists of a corrugated iron roofed building with short stretches of stalls and multiple entrances. Here you will find the famous dried Maldive Fish and the delicious smoked tuna. The vendors are happy to offer free samples!. There are other... More

I thought it will be more exotic. in general rather disappointing. Dark barracks, if you don't go, you will not miss a lot.

Get a feel of what the locals live with. This is where they shop for their fresh produce of fruit and vegetables. Oh and you get to try the coconut juice cut fresh for you for about $2.

While many visits the Maldives for it's finest beaches, the local market is a must. Many resorts and hotels have their Maldivian Night theme during events nights however mixed with modern styles. The local market will open your eyes further. You will see how a real local dress up, how they see you as a normal and local like person... More

Male really does not have a lot to offer the average visitor, but the local market offers a fun little excursion amidst all the chaos happening outside. Vendors offer you free tastes of local nuts, and sell delicious coconut milk straight from the source. Try to go there with the local currency, otherwise you will look like you don't know... More

The local market is in a series of small buildings across the road from the fish market. There are 5-6 separate entrances along the side of the building, because each entrance only takes you into 1 row of stalls on either side of the path through the building. It is a pity the whole building has not been better developed... More
