The Local Market, just a block away from the Male’ Fish Market on the northern waterfront, is divided into small stalls. Each stall is filled with a variety of local produce mainly from the atolls. Here you will find different kinds of local vegetables, fruits and yams, packets of sweetmeat, nuts and breadfruit chips, bottles of home made sweets and... More

A quick stop at the local market adds a nice touch to a tour of Male. There are some local specialties for sale as well as extremely fresh fruit. As a foreigner, the merchants are more than willing to give samples of the food and fruit- even though their prices may be a bit inflated.

This really is a "Local Market", nothing touristy about this one. I was there twice, first time on a Friday during prayers and it was obviously closed but not really "closed".....it was all open and some of the fruit and veg was covered up but you could walk around and everything was open to anyone. This is obviously a reflection... More

We were on a walking tour of Male and were so glad we were shown the local produce market. The place is so colourful with so many different types of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as a huge variety of spices. It was great to see the locals in action and they store holders were very friendly offering us... More

I love this place, full of color and fun, this vegetable and fruit market is Maldives largest produce market. Most of the product coming from local or import, the price is cheap and fresh.

A quiet stroll down the local market is like walking down a living museum. You can pick up souvenirs of wood and corals. If you buy corals ensure it is not prohibited form exporting it from Male. Mostly prices are fixed and rarely there is bargaining. In the vegetable market you will find good fresh fruits. There is a nearby... More

We sampled quite a few things that I had never heard of. Some were good and I'm glad I know to ask for those fruits and vegetables back home. Other things were, um, interesting. My highlight was muddled passion fruit in it's husk, given to me by a local vendor. We all puchased tons of spices to bring back to... More

A must see. Try some dry fish. Friendly place, small area but neat place to experience. The locals are always willing to show case their vegetables, fruits or nuts they have harvested.
