Male is a nice small town and worth a visit as there is a few things to see. We went with a guide and one of the places we stopped of at was the Fish Market. It has huge Tuna and you can look around at the fish for sale.
Huge tuna laying out, and to watch the masters skin and then fillet such a large fish is a wonder. Across the street from one of the food markets, with the most marvelous aromas and colors.
Well it is just a fish market. Don't expect anything more. Surprisingly hygienic, as fish markets go, it was interesting to see the skilled workers filleting tuna. The fish here are mostly tuna type fish with a few other fish and octopus. Opposite it is where you will find smoked tuna and Maldive Fish. There is also thick fish sauce... More
We visit Male, and it was nice experience. It's really small town, but people are very friendly, very good in english, very helpfull.
Lots of Tuna! Fantastic to see how the locals live. The food market is next door, grab a fresh coconut for the walk around. Venture past the fishing boats, I've never had more interesting smells coming from fishing trawlers, a mix of fish and Indian curry spices!
Messy, crowded and dirty but a truly local Maldivian experience. Make sure your guide tells you about the buying process and be prepared to get fish gunk on your slippers!
