Its actually the biggest building in the country which is easily visible when you are entering Male via boat. The building was built in 1984 and interior is only accessible for Muslims. The others can have a glance from out side

Plenty of iconic buildings and monuments on Male island. All of them are within walking distance and can finished in 1-2 hours. This mosque is one of the biggest and the Islamic Centre in Male. Another significant muslim structure is the tomb of Medhu Ziyarai who brought muslim to Male.

it is a very nice, big and clean mosque. Look at the wood carving and the chandelier. I am a non-Moslem and the guide told me that I was allowed into the mosque because I dressed conservatively and I was respectful. A word of advice - cover up, like the locals.

A place for worship in Muslim. It was fascinating seeing the all white paint with steep stairs. Maldives is a pure Muslim country so you cannot see any other Churches here other than Mosque. So, respect every country's culture and religion. For more blog, visit For more travel blog, visit http://traveldiary-007.com/first-stay-at-ui-hotel-hulhumale-and-male-once-again/

Be sure to dress appropriately to go inside. Respect the grounds and the people. Good way to get to know the religious history of the Maldives.

The Grand Friday Mosque (Masjid-al Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu-al-A'z'am , opposite the Sultan Park) is a landmark and hard to miss when in Male. It is quite visible from the waterfront, and as a matter of fact, its gold dome can be seen glinting in the sun while entering Male’s harbor by boat. Opened in 1984 (built with help from the... Spend some time cleaning yourself the Muslim way and you might be asked n the visit and spend some time inside this beautiful mosque. For sure worth a 15 minutes visit. Of course the locals try to talk positively with you regard their faith. I used the time to educate my children, woman are not allowed in, only the backdoor... More

Grand Friday mosque is the biggest mosque in the Maldives. Situated in Malé, it was constructed by the Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar in 1656 and is of great architectural importance. It worth to visit.

The Maldivian people are very proud of their Grand Friday Mosque, and they should be - it is a wonderful space bestowed on them by the many rulers of the Middle East and a great center of the town. That said, no more than 5 mins is needed here as it isn't particularly pretty or interesting beyond the fact that... More
