Well-organized exhibits present the history of Malaysia from prehistoric geology, to colonial era politics, up to the Merdeka independence movement, and beyond. The choice of visuals reveal much about its national self-image. Indeed, certain aspects of history seem to be either glossed over (the Emergency period, and the Communist insurgency), while others are disregarded altogether (the split with Singapore). Despite... Visited National Museum Negara on the last day of 12 day road trip that started in Penang and then over to Kota Bahru, down to Kuala Trengganu, Cherating, Melaka & then to KL, stopping at numerous other places enroute sample Malaysia. On this road trip we'd visited lots of historical, cultural & religious sites. The National Museum Negara, & the... More

Don't waste your time, its very hot to walk around the city and its not easy to get here. Museum is small and displays are not descent, everything written feels like propaganda. i mean its not expensive or anything, well you get what you paid for. Only go if you have free time, don't put this on your "must-do" list... More

You don’t get anywhere any place like this that cheap. Not in Kuala Lumpur nor any city. It may not be as great as the Chinese, Cairo or London museums but I thought it’s the best in Malaysia. So, please bring your children and spend good times to walk through history WITH them so that they can appreciate the past... More

For us it was interesting to visit to know more about Malaysian culture and history. It is well-organised, and not that big, so we did not get tired of looking at tons of rubbish as it happens in other museums.

well, it's a well organized place and the Malaysians are showing their history in a good and neat way. But, it was really bad to know that the bathrooms are way outside the place and they are NOT FREE!! I haven't seen that sort of thing in a cultural place anywhere! So they have to reconsider that issue.

The National Museum is well worth a visit if you're spending time around KL Sentral and the Lakefield Gardens. The Museum is a short walk from Sentral although the route is not well signposted so it took us a while to find the route. The museum has four main halls that cover early human history (prehistoric times), the history of... More
