this is not an island abandoned coz of a war or nuclear or natural disaster but the feeling of being in a ghost town is amaaaazing... its like the end of the world ! also its the place where the movie 007 skyfall was inspired !

Inspired by 007’s “Skyfall” movie, we made our way south from Fukuoka to Nagasaki. The 2-hour train journey was on the limited express. After a brief stop to see the Atomic Bomb Museum, we took a cab to Gunkanjima Conceirge; Which is one of the tour operators to Gunkanjima. However, if you are expecting a walking tour similar to Alcatraz,... More

After reading some recent reviews I can report that the boat cruise will run in heavy rain and light wind. We landed on the eerie, bleek and incredible Hashima Island (commonly known as Gunkanjima) in the pouring rain. Far from dampening our spirits I must say that the rain certainly added to the overall ambience from our perspective.. This place... More

I visited Gunkanjima with the Gunkanjima Concierge service in early February 2014. I had a great experience and will go again, time and (especially) weather permitting. The ride out was pleasant the day I went. Once in the vicinity of the island, the boat cruises around the island and allows photographers to take some shots from the side and the... More

Really good value tour, they took us out to the island on the boat then landed (you may not land if the weather is very bad) and walked around with an English audio tour on headsets. The staff were very friendly and kept checking the headsets were working. They also handed out warm coats for the trip out as we... More

I really enjoyed this tour. There are English audio guides available; unfortunately we didn't discover until the cruise was underway that my husband's didn't work. The staff is really helpful and they do sell wristbands for motion sickness for 500 yen on board but I would recommend taking something for motion sickness before you leave the port. It was very,... After the 50 minute cruise taking in the various industrial sites of Nagasaki we landed on Hashima. The tour follows a set route along the outside of the island and is very limited. I can understand from a safety pint of view why they must be so strict but to have such a wonderful playground so close was agony. Tour... More

We went with Gunkanjima Concierge as they were the only English website we could find for Hashima. The tour is done in Japanese but they gave us a binder with information in English. We paid 3900Y for the 3 hour round cruise, including landing on Hashima Island. The staff were all friendly and tried to help out however they could.... More

Spend your time elsewhere or buy a book, or using Google Streetview to experience this amazing island. Due to the safety regulations, you are only allowed to visit the very small fraction of the outer pathway, which is nothing. The most incredible view of the island is beyond reach. Here the tour guides will lead you to the sides of... More

Great tour to see a fascinating island. In Japanese only but they do give you comprehensive information in an English language binder so you can read all about what you are seeing. Friendly staff and well organised.
