I have to say that I have really mixed feelings about this place and will try to explain. On one hand the main tank is exceptional and you can get different views of different species depending on which floor your at. On the other, the whale shark wasn't there and some of the other tanks are WAAAAY too small for... More

Kaiyukan Aquarium is one of the best aquariums in the world and it's well worth a visit. The main concept is to walk around a massive tank while exploring the different ocean levels around the Pacific's 'ring of fire' region, from Antarctic penguins to coral-reef Butterflyfish to strange jellyfish. I loved the enormous central tank, which had whale sharks and... More

Simply the best aquarium I've ever visited. Smart layout, sea creatures great and small, amazing lighting. All in all an unforgettable experience

We got to the aquarium at 12noon..... Queues were not so bad. Price was great...but big disappointment that the Whale shark was no longer there.... All our research showed it...but alas ...gone. We entered and found yhe stairs were a little tough, but manageable. What stuned us was the distance you have to walk. As you enter you dont notice... More

I am a biologist and I have been to many aquariums around the world and this is one of the worst. The tanks are understocked and have low biodiversity. Some of the animals appear to be stressed and in poor health. For example, Eagle rays are supposed to be black with white spots. Not grey. This shows poor health and... More

We went to the aquarium on a drizzling Sunday. It was sheltered so we thought it was a good choice to pick our outing. We entered at the 8th floor and descended to observe the exhibits. It was a pretty large aquarium but the crowd was much bigger and packed with kids. Trying to look at each exhibit was a... More

I went to the aquarium on a Sunday with my girlfriend plus a couple of backpackers we met at our hostel. Easy to get too and reasonably priced it was a good rainy day option for something to do. The aquarium is pretty large, however the crowds were bigger. Trying to look at each exhibit was a mission, I could... More

The aquarium houses a large variety of sea animals. The place is sheltered and the tour goes down a ramp into the bottom of the aquarium. There are huge fishes as well as nano creatures. Really a sight for those who loves to visit aquariums. Quite a long walk for those who have short attention span. Be ready to spend... More

If you like this sort of thing like me, it's a must see! Only 2300 YEN and spent about 3 hours there. You follow a route that takes you throughout the aquarium. The jellyfish exhibit showed me jellyfish I didn't know even existed., Signs in Japanese and English. Skip the add-on boat ride. Not much to see but shipping docks.... More
