Nice temple and outdoor areas

Almost templed-out by the time we got there :) Still worth a visit and enjoy the peaceful gardens. It was nice to see the changes happening with the trees in October.

We visited Shoren-in at the end of a long day sightseeing around Kyoto so we were understandably a bit tired when we visited here. Spending some time chilling out by the beautiful gardens here was as good as taking a nap! A really serene and beautiful place to spend an hour - many people were sitting around sketching, writing, etc.... More

This was the only light-up we visited in Kyoto, beautiful, with a small bamboo grove at the back, which means you don't have to fight your way through the hordes in the Arashiyama bamboo walk. Well worth a look.

We visited this temple on the recommendation of the Lonely Planet Kyoto book. It turned out to be one of our favorite gardens. The temple buildings are also interesting - with many painted screens and artifacts. The best feature, however, is the garden. On a very rainy day the temple was not crowded. We sat in two locations and just... More

We visited at the end of the day about an hour before it closed when it was quite quiet. It's a very peaceful place and the gardens are pretty, you can also walk around the temple itself which was cool, would recommend.

It's located near Chioin & Kodaiji temple. I love walking near here toward Kiyomizu-dera. I viseted here & enjoyed colored leaves. It's so beautiful & I'll visit here again with my wife.

There was a fair bit of construction going on around when we landed around Shoren-in temple, despite which we had a really good walk around the Worship Path here. The path is beautiful - peaceful and tranquil, with tonnes of greenery around. There are a fair number of steps to climb if you'd like to go up to the Chon-in... More

An interesting shrine, but is less colourfull and less interesting than others I saw in Kyoto. The Gong is nice, and so is the garden. The building is fully accessible with several wall paintings.

After I visited Kenninji Temple, I walked up to Shorenin Temple. Because I was so impressed by the great artworks in Kenninji, I was disappointed at Shorenin with few great artworks. I read others' reviews and it seemed to me that most of them liked the night illumination. Because Kyoto is a tourism-oriented city, it is understandable to use a... More

The garden and the sort of temple were amazing. Old paintings, koy fishes, combination of houses and the garden was wonderful.
