After I visited Kenninji Temple, I walked up to Shorenin Temple. Because I was so impressed by the great artworks in Kenninji, I was disappointed at Shorenin with few great artworks. I read others' reviews and it seemed to me that most of them liked the night illumination. Because Kyoto is a tourism-oriented city, it is understandable to use a... More

The garden and the sort of temple were amazing. Old paintings, koy fishes, combination of houses and the garden was wonderful.

Incredibly beautiful temple. The night time illuminations were very beautiful, and walking through the garden at night was delightful! I haven't seen the temple during the day but would love to do so! I recommend seeing the illumination if you get the chance!

We went for the fall night time illumination, and it was just beautiful. Not what I expected (I thought it would be more fall colored trees), but the bamboo was amazing. We are very glad we went!

It's a quite and peaceful temple where to meditate and recharge your soul. The best part is the garden, not to mention the pond you can admire from a room inside. I could sit there and contemplate for hours.

Just in the middle of two important temple (Heian Jingu & Yasaka Shrine), it was a really agreeable surprise to find such a nice and quiet temple during our journey. The garden is gorgeous and you can sit an contemplate it from an inside (and warm) room. Totally worth it !

I went to Shoren-in on the advice of a friend. Compared to nearby sites such as Nanzen-ji, this one is a quiet little place. Tranquil and calm. Love it.

The garden of this temple is as good as they all say. Absorb the Zen calmness. If you are in Kyoto presumably you want to experience temples and this is one of the best.

This is a real gem and is especially nice since it doesn't attract hoards of tourists--quiet and beautiful. Of course, if everyone followed my recommendation, there would be hoards of tourists.
