My husband is a die-hard fan of the samurai culture through such movies as "The Last Samurai", so he was ecstatic to hear about this opportunity. We opted for the full experience (demonstration, lesson and costume) and felt it was worth every yen. During the demonstration, the English narration was a bit difficult to understand at times (heavy accents), but... More

Kyoto is the cultural heart of Japan, and no where is this more evident then in the small basement office of the Neo Art building in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. The instructors are friendly and patient with guests as they walk you through some basic moves of this artform. It was a great honor to be given a glimpse of several Kembu... More

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Samurai Kembu Kyoto. The show brings to life the discipline, honour, skills and stylish flair of the Samurai warriors. It is at times funny, sometimes terrifying, but all the time entertaining and quite beautiful to watch! We took the 'demonstration only' package and found that to be exactly what we were... More

My girlfriend and I went together on a Monday around noon. The location is easy to find if you keep your eyes open. A small stairway leads directly from the sidewalk dawn into the basement. In the waiting room there's some souvenirs to buy (books, fans, etc.), a water cooler, a small table and the reception. The guy working on... More

We had a fun time at Samurai Kembu Kyoto. We went to the evening session and my teenage daughters did the short workshop while I was an observer. The short workshop was perfect especially after a long day of sightseeing! On the day we went, we were the only people signed up, so we had our own private samurai show!... More

I've been a samurai enthusiast for years. Having the experience of participating in the kembu class was very fulfilling for me. The instructors were great and the demonstration they showed was very entertaining and informative. Worth every yen.

I had a fantastic evening at Samurai Kembu Kyoto. The event started with a show by the samurai performers which was very interesting and informative. The audience was small so there was a really good, intimate atmosphere. After the performance which lasted approximately one hour, there was plenty of time to take photos of and with the performers. Some guests... More

We went for the full experience, the lesson beforehand, then we got to dress in Samurai garb, and then we got to watch the Masters do a demonstration. Don't leave this off your itinerary! THank you Samurai Kembu.

It was a great time for myself, my husband, and 13 year old son. The full experience with costumes is worth it and makes for great photos. It was nice to learn also some history of the samurai to give it some context. We definitely recommend it.

We heard that Seiga was a great experience but didn't expect to come away so impressed.. Fun and skillful teachers, the lesson was awesome, the history and culture information was really interesting and the show was superb. All in all a totally unforgettable experience and definitely recommended!
