Come early to avoid the tour bus crowds. Some of the most beautiful Japanese pictures can be taken from this sight. Its beautiful from every angle! You cannot come to Kyoto and skip this attraction. Also visit the silver pavilion on the opposite side of town to compare the extravagance of the gold to the ordinary "silver" At is most... More

Shining golden temple in the impeccably kept gardens and trails. Really special atmosphere. I liked it better this time. Maybe it was because the crowds were less than they were in April, when I visited last. More

Beautiful pavillion and garden especially during spring. Very impress with the main tower (the one in Gold) and don't expect too much from the rest of the area. You more and less can finish the whole area within 25 minutes if you are not a "Garden" lover. More

Even though I scored it 3/5, doesn't mean it is bad. It is just that you pay slightly a lot for a place which you can finish in 10 minutes if you rush it. Pretty much the pavilion is the only eye catcher. The other activities are watching gardens en drinking tea on a tatami mat with a nice sweet. More

Beautiful pavillion & garden. Another MUST on your Kyoto List! Gets a bit crowded - but still well worth it. More

The Pavilion is beautiful, and glistened in a very satisfying way on the sunny afternoon we visited. The tourist conveyor belt system which you are pushed around in was a little off-putting but the huge crowds on what was a fairly off-season Wednesday afternoon may demand they use that system. The gardens are nice too. Beware the never-ending stalls of... More

Some may like it, but my wife and I found the place slightly over-rated. The view of the golden pavilion is beautiful, especially across the pond. It does make a nice sight but apart from that, there is really not much to offer. The rest of the garden is average at best, when compared to other attractions or gardens. More

Very touristic - full of people even a rainy day. Had a nice visit but nothing more than that More
