It is a leap of faith choosing a tour company based only upon other traveler's recommendations. However, TA delivers again. We had a spectacular tour with Kenzo. He is friendly, knowledgeable and gregarious. He taught my wife how to use her iphone with the panoramic pics in the bamboo forest. If he ever leaves his career as a tour guide,... More

The only way to go. My Wife and I just returned from 10 days in Japan. We decided before we left home that the only way to go and see in Japan was with a private tour guide. If not, we would have wasted time trying to find the places we wanted to see and not completely understand what we... More

Outstanding: Though Kyoto is overwhelming from a touring and historic perspective, Kazue, made it seem a gentle small town. She incorporated several of the famous touring highlights in with local little known gems, that give you a feel of the ancient history and workings of the city. She was friendly and warm. She easily bridged the ancient east and the... More

Thank you for writing that extremely generous review of your tour with Kazue. I know that she really enjoyed showing you around Kyoto. I agree that Kyoto can be a little overwhelming sometimes. After all - there are more than 1,000 temples to choose from! We take pride in finding the real gems and linking them together by secret lanes... More

Our guide met us at our hostel, showed us how to use the city buses and purchased our first bus day pass, and then took us by train to the start of our hike, all the while imparting great information. We enjoyed her company and the hike as well: we only wish we had scheduled a tour earlier in our... More

We booked tours for our first days in each city we visited Kyoto and Tokyo, having a personal guide allowed us to see much more in a limited amount of time than we could have managed alone. Koko showed us around Kyoto managing to fit in the Gold temple, the Silver temple, the bamboo grove and two other lesser known... More

Thank you for your kind review! I am really happy that you and your son enjoyed your tours of Kyoto and Tokyo. I often recommend that people take a guided tour on their first full day in each city, since this allows them to feel comfortable exploring on their own thereafter. It seems like this worked well for you. I... More

We did a tour of Arashiyama and Higashiyama in Kyoto with Koko and it was great. Koko was able to keep the tour interesting for 5 of us middle aged adults and also maintained a pace that was comfortable for our old folks aged 55 and above. She knew her history well and peppered us with stories and fun facts... More

A wonderful day with an extremely informative guide, Koko. Koko was excellent and led us around all the public transport no problems and was very flexible with what we saw and where we went to focus on our specific interests. Normally I do not bother to do such a tour and usually find my own way around a city but... More

Kenzo was our guide and made our trip to Kyoto unforgettable. From a morning breakfast outside the Fox Shrine, our magical stroll through endless Torii gates, a delicious Okonomiyaki lunch break, visit to the Philosopher's Walk and many other sites, Kenzo gave us a Kyoto experience we will never forget. Kenzo exemplified the perfect guide - he was knowledgeable, friendly,... More

Chris Rowthorn Tours specialises in handcrafted tours. My family's first trip to Tokyo left us feeling a bit lost and that we had not seen all the interesting parts or experienced the best cultural and dining experiences. This time we used Chris's company to help us plan our family holiday to Tokyo and Kyoto. His English speaking guides were enthusiastic,... More

Just visited Kyoto and Tokyo with family (children of 12 and 10). Would recommend Chris Rowthorn tours to help you see as much as possible, and to help to understand what you are seeing.
