Went on the half day cultural tour. My tour guide was Terin who was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about Kyoto. He went above and beyond to make the tour enjoyable and answer question about Kyoto and Japan. He pointed me to other fascinating destinations and recommended some restaurants and shopping areas when asked. After the tour concluded... More

Fantastic guide (Iulian) gave a terrific tour in spite of some rain interruptions. Iulian was extremely knowledgeable which was evident by his succinct yet complete answers to our questions. He did not load us up with details, but rather the bigger picture highlighted with interesting and humorous anecdotes. Seek him out for a great few hours!

My nephew and I spent a very pleasant afternoon with Tomoko seeing some of the beautiful temples in Kyoto and the Gion District. Tomoko started out a bit shy but once she got to know us a little she opened up and shared her knowledge of the area, her sense of humor and her delicious snacks. We really enjoyed our... More

Salome was our guide this week in Kyoto. She is a very lovely young lady with a passion for Japanese culture. We enjoyed our afternoon learning about Kyoto. The temples we visited were very contrasting and fascinating. One temple Tofuku-Ji was serene and the gardens were beautiful. The other temple Fushimi Inari was vibrant in color and energy. We tried... More

I was a bit disappointed. We were asked to consider using bikes at our B&B but should have insisted on renting modern ones. For the premium price of our experience I expected a more experienced, energized confident guide to lead us around the city sights. Although our guide was very accommodating and flexible, it became too passive for my liking.... More

We had a very engaging and informative tour guide Salomon. She is studying Japanese in Kyoto. We spent four hours on this tour and went to four sites which was perfect, it didn't feel rushed and there was plenty of time for photos. Bike tours are a great way to see a city and get a feel for the city.... More

We took this bike tour to stretch our legs and get a sense of the city. The bikes were comfortable and our guide a nice affable enough fellow. But over all there was a whole lot of biking and not a lot of guiding. So don't expect to learn much about the city. Still a fun way to get some... More

My dad and I had a wonderful tour with Salome, a Georgian student who was studying in Kyoto, as our guide. She was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and sincerely interested in sharing the best of Japanese culture and history with us. We had a small group of only 4 people, making it easy to customize the tour as we went. Some... More

We had a Romanian student, Iulian, as our guide. He has been living in Kyoto for over a year studying Japanese. He is very knowledgeable and had answers to any question that we any of the group had. We had an intimate group of 4 which was great! Would definitely recommend the tour.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
