With so little time to spend in Kyoto I decided to split one day with self-guided and guided touring. I took myself to Arashiyama in the morning, and then met our local guide, Guillemin for the Kyoto walking tour. On this tour we visited two temples, Tofukuji and Inari Fushima, and walked through local neighborhoods learning a bit about daily... More

I really prefer walking tours over coach tours since I like being able to interact with the city I am in. Luckily, there were only two of us on this walking tour which made it even better. Guillemin was just the perfect guide. He was very knowledgable of the city, the people, and the culture. I learned so much from... More

We had an amazing day with Kimi our guide. We had booked the day after, but the forecast said rain, so I contacted Kimi and asked if they could move it a day forward. Kimi was so kind to do so, even if they were very busy and in fact fully booked. We cycled about 45 km and walked another... More

We were lucky to have Terin as our guide. He is very knowledgeable about Japanese culture and brings an ideal perspective of an American who moved to Kyoto. We have taken numerous tours during our visit to Japan, but none came close to this urban adventures tour with Terin. If you haven't book yet and are still reading this review,... More

We had an excellent tour with our guide Terin. He had impressive knowledge of Kyoto history and culture, and took us to locations that provided a good insight into them with trips to Sanjusengdo, Tofuguchi temple and an enchanting visit to Dokai-ji shrine which had just opened to after-dark tours. He then went above and beyond by finding us an... More

This cultural walking tour was certainly amongst the highlights of our stay in Kyoto and that was in no small part down to our engaging and entertaining guide, Terin. He took us to a beautiful Buddhist temple and Shinto shrine and made the history of both places come alive with his impressive knowledge and anecdotes. Our atmospheric tour around Gion... More

I had Guillemin yesterday as my tour guide for a cycling tour and also the Culture tour. I have to say he was amazing. Even his assistant Bec was amazing. Both were very knowledgable but what made them stand out was they just made you feel like they were friends. It wasn't a job for them, it was something they... More

Our guide, Guillemin was outstanding. He was very informative, friendly, and provided an efficient platform to visit highlights in Kyoto with limited time. Will definitely go back to do some more site-seeing.

Tomo was friendly and made sure we stopped at all the points of interest. She was a little shy, and would have been a little better if the tour was a bit more interactive; some parts felt a bit "memorized". All in all, still learnt fair bit about Kyoto in couple hours.

Went on the half day cultural tour. My tour guide was Terin who was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about Kyoto. He went above and beyond to make the tour enjoyable and answer question about Kyoto and Japan. He pointed me to other fascinating destinations and recommended some restaurants and shopping areas when asked. After the tour concluded... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
