I went to both the day and the night tours. We went to some smaller temples and shrines, but focused quite a bit on what the significance is for each part of the temples, what Shintoism was, Buddhism, etc. There were some stops that were basically tourist purchasing stops, including a fan shop, and a handmade pottery thing. They don't... More

I am full of admiration for Hajume Hirooka, who at age 84 is still carrying out a weekly walking tour every Wednesday (I understand other people lead the tour on other days). I hope I have his mental and physical energy at his age, and he has a wealth of knowledge! However, I have to say that five hours is... More

We took this tour on the first niht we arrived, we had only been in Kyoto for a few hours and our hotel was all the way down near the rail station. We found the meeting point a bit hard to find and had to ask around, even thouh its on the tourist map! Easiest way to find it is... More

We did the two hour night time tour and found the tour was very interesting in terms of learning about the Geisha culture. However, our guide did not show us so much of the Gion district and instead tended to stand on the spot. I did get a bit bored and wandered away from the group and was rewarded with... More

My boyfriend and I were part of the Walking Tour exploring the misterious district of Gion in Kyoto. Our guides were really nice and it was so interesting to discover this area, the story of the Geiko and Maikos..unfortunately we could not see any of the them but I strongly recommend this your if you are in Kyoto!

You have to do this walking tour, and if Mia is your guide, you will have a great time from the moment she introduces herself. She is an incredibly good story teller, she mesmerises us with the stories of the micho and the geicho and her own personal experiences. She has given us great insights into the life and training... the 5 hour Walk in Kyoto day tour with Mary was excellent. 5*.She took us to temples, explained the culture and behavior, took us to side streets, back alleys, and even a community center. Well worth the time. The evening Gion walk was mostly story telling on a couple of streets in the Gion area. I don't recall the guide's... More

Loved the tour! The tour guide knew a lot, was interesting and kind. She took her time to tell us different stories and had great personality. Showed us the best spots to find Geiko's and Maiko's and knew so much about the history of Geishas and the Gion district. I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone. You can't beat... More

Myself and 2 teenage daughters joined this night tour and had a wonderful time. The guide was great and we learnt a lot of things about traditional Japan and the Geishas and Maikos in Gion. We were even lucky enough to see some real Maikos during our tour. I would highly recommend this tour, it was a lot of fun... More

Last June 16, 2014, we joined the tour at Kitaza (the meeting spot) with Mari and Meiko. The tour costs 1000 Y per head and we found it reasonable for the information and experience. We started walking around Gion's alleys and sidestreets where there's no other way to feel the identity and history behind the houses and buildings but to... More
