really interesting museum and docklands, also a Kawasaki motorbike display - you learn all about the devastating earthquake that hit the region, as well a lot about the deep harbour and container shipping

Go at night! This is when the place is prettiest, and you see all the beautiful lights. I've always loved this place because the area is so clean and calm. Not typical japanese at all. A nice family area where you could go for dinner.

We arrived in Kobe by JR and the port is no longer than a 20min walk down. Signs were good and there were many shopping centres along the way so it never felt like 20min too. The harbour has a nice iconic view of Kobe and a huge ferris wheel to add flavour to pictures taken. There are also many interesting shops selling local Kobe products and many many little cafes if you choose to rest. An enjoyable experience for sure.

The Kobe Harborland is an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend a day of shopping, ferris wheel riding, harbor cruising and eating delicious Kobe beef. Its easy to get there using the inexpensive circle line on and off bus from anywhere in the city. Sitting along the pier watching the ships go by while the giant ferris wheel slowly spins skyward and street musicians serenading anyone who would listen to them is so peaceful and refreshing. Inside the multi-level shopping mall is a shoppers paradise from high end clothing shops to sporting goods stores to street vendors selling trinkets and ice cream. Every few stores along the mall include places to eat or cookies and confections to take home as gifts. The city's famous Kobe beef is available at many restaurants thru out the mall making it difficult to decide which one to try. The Harborland is a must place to visit when in Kobe.

We initially planned to just cross this off our places to go in Japan list but surprisingly, this place took the whole afternoon/evening of our time. But it was definitely worth it. The beautiful scenery and the chill-vibes of the place will make you stay longer. There is a mall with lots of shops and restaurant.

Make your way to the waterfront at Harborland at night time to see the illuminated port of Kobe. It is a great vantage point and very pretty. I imagine it would be quite romantic too with a special someone.

Harborland is a shopping precinct. I was impressed by the shops at 'Mosaic', the children's section of Harborland. There is a Studio Ghibli shop, interesting confectionary and nice restaurants. Even though it has a children's theme, it is very much a playground for adults.

It's an awesome view at early mornings and at night time, the port is so huge you can see the ships and the containers and submarines that are displayed here
There is a nice view from the hotel I stayed that faces the ocean, it's so calm and peaceful. The shops and galleries there are so quaint and everything looks picture perfect.

Last week end I had the chance to visit Kobe and Osaka . We went in the evening also in Kobe harborland passing from this huge mall Umie directly to MOSAIC , very big shopping and restaurants area . Nice view of Kobe Tower , Merikan hotel , Ferris wheel , and the sea side harbour promenade . Dinner in brasilian steak restaurant , original name Rodizio , very recomanded in the Mosaic building . Concerto cruise ship also there , you can go for lunch , tea or dinner time with life music in a cruise arround Kobe Harbour . I hope to comeback in this place sometimes .

Had a really enjoyable time taking in the area. The maritime museum and Kawasaki museum are included in a grouped ticket with the Kobe tower for ¥1000. Good value got money as it was a couple if hours well spent. I experienced the tower just as the sun set. It was an amazing view and worth the ticket in itself. The cafe beneath the viewing deck is nice to relax with a coffee. The cafe rotates around the tower which offers a 360 degree view without leaving the chair.

Just outside of the museum and tower is the memorial to the earthquake that destroyed the docks. Interesting to see the remnants still left as a memorial of sorts.
