Beautiful Campus

We strolled here while waiting for our scheduled tour to depart. The place is very beautiful. It is a relaxing place to stroll leisurely.

I loved the trees that lined up the road. They especially look nice in autumn. There's just a certain vibrancy and youthfulness to university campuses especially those with a lot of greenery that makes me want to be a college student again. There are couple of historic landmarks/ buildings which are worth checking out and it won't hurt to visit... More

I only remember now the above phrase but not the person who said this... I was surprised to get to know he used to teach students in Sapporo. Since I planned short trip to Sapporo, I did not allocate full day for visiting Sapporo. So I could visit the university to meet his statue at night time. It rained quite... More

Hokkaido University has a great flora scenery particularly in Autumn... I went there again in Winter and it's full of snow. However, don't miss the Elm Tree shop where you could buy its famous cookies and sausages.

I can't speak of what Hokkaido University's campus looks like most of the year since I visited in the height of winter. However, in winter time it is absolutely gorgeous. Snow is everywhere and the creeks/ponds throughout the massive campus are usually frozen over and create a serene winter wonderland type feeling. The campus itself is very well built and... More

Just a short distance from busy, noisy city centre of Sapporo station you can easily reach on foot. The campus provide spacious, peaceful ambience and some small nature. Walk icy roads in winter can be adventure.

We went to see the campus and the university museum in winter time - there were some nice old wooden buildings but the overall campus is not very special. The museum is potentially interesting but almost entirely in japanese. Some of the exhibits are 'natural history museum' style but quite small. The university should think about updating its motto -... More

I went there in September, 2010. Excellent campus with a small river flowing in it. Very well maintained. Food available inside is also nice.

Beautiful campus exemplifying seasonal colors throughout the year. Pink in spring, green in summer, yellow / red in autumn, and white in winter. Hokkaido University makes an excellent photo spot for tourists. The university museum carries a variety of interesting displays including polar bears, rainforests, nature, Hokkaido history, etc. Campus is accessible and within walking distance from Sapporo station.

In comparison to the campuses we experience in America, this is not anything special. If you just want to walk around, it's fine. For a university campus, I was underwhelmed and disappointed. Not very colorful or unique.
