This was just a great place for a quiet winter stroll. We came during early January and the whole university was a winter wonderland. I am sure the university looks lovely during spring and summer.

The gingko trees were the highlight of the fall season. It's really nice to walk around as there were only a few tourists.

We were disappointed at the scenery here, because much has been lauded about this place in tourism documents. Perhaps we came at the wrong season i.e. winter?

Having read that this was a good place to visit, I was quite disappointed, but more because my expectations had been high. It was quiet in winter, the snow clad trees and streets were beautiful. It was too cold & windy that day for us to properly enjoy the place. Judging from the photos in the other reviews, October would... More

The main attraction point is the main entrace on east side of the campus. You could check on the map around the campus for direction. The university also provides securities for tourist as this main entrance is very busy with car and bus (although they are all speak in japanese but you could guess what they mean haha). If you... Just a bit North of Sapporo Station, this university (and Professor Clark) played a major role in the development of Sapporo, so I'd say a visit is definitely in order if you want to get an insight to Sapporo's origins. Great for strolling around, and reading the inscriptions on historical markers scattered throughout the campus, but there's no reason to... More

An amazing campus not to be missed. We were led by a group of retiree volunteers who were from the university's alumni. Just find out when the tours are and gather at the meeting which is very near the entrance. As it was autumn, the foliage was mesmerising and the cool weather made the walk perfect. Check out the souvenirs... More

November is the best season for autumn leaves. This morning we are strolling along Hokkaido University's ginkgo avenue for the beautiful deep red and gold foliage.

When in Sapporo, you must visit this university especially during autumn. It has a stunningly beautiful road lined with yellow and red of all shades, plus a few other areas within the university. Just drop by the Visitors Center for a guide to where the beautiful trees are. There were 2 very helpful staff who basically told us of the... More
