Very good and big market to do some shopping in, don't forget to bargain! A big minus though is what the animals (sold as pets or food) are going through there, small cages that is overcrowded and vice vers. But if you look at it without that point of view it is a cool market to find some souveniers in.

Our expectations were not high. It was on our way back from the Green lake to our hotel. Yes it is a flea market on a pedestrian road. However some old buildings in the area have been restored and are nice to look at. But many others are being build from scratch to look like historical ones... This area 100%... More

We were part of a group tour and were left to spend an hour or so in this market...except we could not find any flowers or birds...just pet mice, rabbits and dogs in cages, and general Chinese knick-knacks. Try to avoid this, it's a waste of time. I wish we had spent more time in some of the other attractions... More

This market is open everyday and is a low end flea market more than anything. There is a plants section and some birds. Plenty of animals also ,animal lovers would be sickened by their treatment. Not appealing in anyway.

Lots of local packed delicacies which you can find in supermarkets. Jewellery shop which didn't interest me much... Disappointed. No short cut way to exit.

As markets go, this one is not very unique in the products offered for sale. There are many birds, puppies, kittens, rodents, and some snakes for purchase for household pets. The area is a maze of small shops often selling touristic or rather generic products. If time is short, skip this activity.

Be prepare to be in a long maze. No easy way out. The marker has been upgraded to an indoor market with air condition.

Despite its name, flowers and birds can only be found in two small sections at either ends of the street-long market. In between the two sections are a congestion of stalls selling assorted (and often repetitive) souvenir items. The animals and birds are kept in dubious conditions (small or overcrowded cages, cardboard boxes etc), so those upset by such sights... More

After visiting Beijing several times, I liked Kunming as it gives a very different image of China. The bird and flowers market was crowded with old people playing and trying their new tobacco, artisans carving spectacular cages and birds of every size and color. What I did not like is the show off of small pets (expecially dogs) in cages,... More

There are hundreds of jade shops in the center of Kunming. They have many beautiful pieces (carvings). The prices of these pieces are rather high.
