It was a enjoyable trip which took 2 hour bus ride from Kunming. I regretted not paying for the battery car service to the park entrance. But who would had thought that the ticket booth and the entrance of the park was 3km away? And there was no one way ticket so I had to either pay for the full... More

It is about 45 mins drive from the city. Take the electric car as the actual stone forest is quite far from the entrance. It will be slippery and dangerous walking and climbing on the rocks if it is raining.

Should have taken the advice of Lijiang Guides, they said it would be crowded and it sure was,so full that it is hard to take photos and not be in others photos

Shilin stone forest is a pleasant day trip from Kunming and a great chance to see the south China karst formations (though maybe not the most peaceful and quiet one). The trip from Kunming is a bit complicated, since you first need to get to Kunming's East bus station and take an bus from there, which takes about 90 minutes,... More

We paid extra on our tour to visit this site, well worth the money. I was expecting this to be a park like Bryce Canyon but it was better developed and well-taken care of. I'd expect that the rocks could be very slippery and dangerous on rainy days. Just amazing!

A great day out. 2-3 hours from downtown Kunming. Could be a half or full day hike. Some areas were quite crowded, even on a Friday - I guess the weekends / holidays are mad. But it is easy to leave the tour groups behind and be totally alone - especially along the narrow tunnels and steep steps. The Bushao... More

Really nice, unique rock formations, a very large area that is easily accessed and safe. It is well maintained and facilities are provided. Be sure and visit this attraction, if only for a little while because it is very unique.

One of the most unique natural wonders we have seen and walking through it was fascinating. Our tour guide told us about the names given to certain parts of the forest by the locals because of the resemblance they have to significant things. Every turn was a perfect picture and as photography enthusiasts we were gitty. The only thing about... More

Once we were actually in the formations away from the crowds (which just meant leaving the main path), it was great. We originally made the mistake of not buying tickets on the golf cart to go from the ticket office to the forest. This made for a long walk - especially since we went in the wrong direction for part... More
