There are only 2 buses a day at 7:50am and 8:30am. There is another way to get to Dongchuan with a more flexible schedule however it will require a taxi ride to Redland after arriving in Dongchuan. I took the 7:50am bus to Fahze from Kunming North Passenger Bus Station. You can only purchase tickets on the day so punctuation... More

We spent two nights in late October 2014 at the guest house (红土情缘 Hong Tu Qing Yuan, Tel: 0086-13170612242, 0086-13211612477) and felt so much at home with Madam Zhao and her husband taking care of us - photos attached. Because I enjoyed it so much I felt obliged to write a review for them. On the morning of our trip... More

October was not a best season for the colours but still very good. We joined a local photographer tour for 6 days at RMB1930 which was value for money as we took a lot of good pictures.

The bus ride - you should arrive at the North Coach Station in Kunming for the 07:50 or 08:30 bus trip to You need a ticket to Hong Tu Di. That is the name of this guest house. The area is called Hong Tu Qing Yuan. (not Dongchuan). You buy your tickets at the North Coach Bus Station. We were... More

There are 2 factors that could make or break your trip to 东川红土地 (Dongchuan Redland); firstly the weather & secondly your homestay hosts. Despite the long drive (4 hours from Kunming airport) and our late arrival after 9 pm, we were still greeted with genuine mega-watt smiles from our homestay hosts at HongTuQingYuan. Within no time, our hostest Mdm Zhao... More

This place is truly amazing. In ten years, it will be heavily commercialized and busy, so go now when it is still fairly pristine! Look, most likely, you're not going to get those photos on google images or in nat geo that show the beams of light shining down onto the glowing fields at dawn, but the drive is still... More

We were quite disappointed to go all the way after travelling on the rocky roads to dongchuan because the view is not as per what was seen on the website & travel brochures. Maybe it is the wrong season. It is not worth doing this place as yet unless you do not mind the toilet facilities and the bumpy roads.

We were there at the beginning of May - 2 May, which was also the golden weekend. I'll sidetrack a bit and talk about the accommodation before I proceed to the attractions. We stumbled upon this guest house called 红土情缘(Hong Tu Qing Yuan, Tel: 0086-13170612242, 0086-13211612477) while looking for a place to call "home" for two nights. This place, I... More

Went in mid June, weather was good. Colors mostly in red & green, some yellow and orange too, very beautiful. Weather changes very fast, mist come and go very fast. Did not get to see the sunrise and sunset due to heavy clouds. But we saw rainbow which is a bonus. Saw some white & purple potato flowers. Canola flowers... More
