We were there at the beginning of May - 2 May, which was also the golden weekend. I'll sidetrack a bit and talk about the accommodation before I proceed to the attractions. We stumbled upon this guest house called 红土情缘(Hong Tu Qing Yuan, Tel: 0086-13170612242, 0086-13211612477) while looking for a place to call "home" for two nights. This place, I... More

Went in mid June, weather was good. Colors mostly in red & green, some yellow and orange too, very beautiful. Weather changes very fast, mist come and go very fast. Did not get to see the sunrise and sunset due to heavy clouds. But we saw rainbow which is a bonus. Saw some white & purple potato flowers. Canola flowers... More

This is a place where you can go at least 2 times. I went in July, not a very good season as flowers fell. Weather was not good, a little bit misty. Still it is a very beautiful place. Green and red combines to form a beautiful artificial pictures. Air is fresh. If weather is good, one can see really... More

This area is refreshingly remote. It's just a collection of mountain villages. No city noise and no polluted city air. It's a place to admire the views and sleep well. I stayed in Huashitou 化石头 at a comfortable guest house built about 4 years ago. I will try to post a new review; but if that doesn't go through, will... More

My friend and I drive up from Kunming through Dong Chuan. It took us about 5 or 6 hours stopping for lunch. Traffic is pretty bad leaving the city so add some extra time compared to what people will tell you. We were there for sunset and sunrise. We drove to all the spots. It's a beautiful place, but don't... More

This landscape is unique in the world. It is not easy to get there but worth it. We stayed in Kunming and made the three hour drive fairly easily. Our guide and driver told us there have been some improvements in the road so it was faster than the trip used to be. You won't see the sunrise and sunset... More

What a spectacular place! I currently live near Guangzhou, China and vacationed in Kunming for 5 days with my husband and friend. We took a day trip to Dongchuan. We left at 9am and arrived back in Kunming around 6pm. We stayed in the Redlands for about 3-4 hours. It was a good amount of time to see a lot,... More

Second visit to The Red Lands for photography. First in 2011. Scenery remains beautiful to spectacular. A new road from Kunming cuts travel time by an hour or so. Can be visited in one day, but you will probalby miss the sunrise and/or sunset scenery. Several new guesthouses have been opened since my last visit. Accomodation has been improved. Stayed... More

If i get the chance i will be back here for at least a week! Beautiful colours and friendly people. A few nice hotels around but you need somebody who knows the place and who will drive you around at least on your first visit. Really breathtaking scenery!
