I am so glad not to have missed Dongchuan. The views in the area are superb and although it is recommended that travellers stay there overnight to see sunset/sunrise I did not have the time and still felt I saw a lot. The way there is beautiful, there is nothing to do once in the area except look around at... More

Situated about 4 hrs from Kunming City, DongChuan is a relatively un-commercialized part of Yunnan. Famed for the reddish earth which lends beautiful and contrasting hues against the quiltwork of farmed land and surrounding mountains, DongChuan offers truly colorful and spectacular scenery along with a chance to explore the colorful rural lifestyle of the tribal people of the area. It... More

Provided a wonderful and scenic background that is extremely suitable for photography. The colors change with the season, and for me maybe the most beautiful period was mid autumn. If you are looking for more natural beauty like this, you could try Mu Cang Chai in Vietnam.

One of the best attractions near Kunming. It is quite far from Kunming City, and would require a change of bus. If traveling independently, be informed that there is only one public bus a day, and once you reach the place you'll have to wait until the next morning to return. There are several hotels spread out in the area... More

This is a must visit venue for all photography enthusiasts. Every season offers different colours and scenic views. We were there in late November and even though some of the crops have been harvested, the landscape was still stunning. We left immediately from the airport upon arrival on an evening flight. It took us more than 3 hours through dark... More

Most people only stayed overnight at the Red Land. That was also my original plan but I like the hoteI so much that I ended up staying for three nights and enjoyed the very scenic walks of the area. It's a beautiful courtyard hotel with expensive wooden furniture and tasteful decorations. I think worth a visit even if you are... More

Dongchuan, the Red Land, is worth the bad road, the primitive accommodation. Nature wins! It is truly magnificent, still virtually undiscovered because of the poor facilities but I would not have missed this for anything. Preferable with a guide an driver

There are only 2 buses a day at 7:50am and 8:30am. There is another way to get to Dongchuan with a more flexible schedule however it will require a taxi ride to Redland after arriving in Dongchuan. I took the 7:50am bus to Fahze from Kunming North Passenger Bus Station. You can only purchase tickets on the day so punctuation... More

We spent two nights in late October 2014 at the guest house (红土情缘 Hong Tu Qing Yuan, Tel: 0086-13170612242, 0086-13211612477) and felt so much at home with Madam Zhao and her husband taking care of us - photos attached. Because I enjoyed it so much I felt obliged to write a review for them. On the morning of our trip... More
