They are simply beautiful, and at night they are fantastic... If you want to walk their full length, be ready for a long, long, looong walk :) Best way to see all of it is by renting a byke once you are on the walls ;)

You can rent bikes on the wall. It's about a 13km length around the old city. You will enjoy quiet and pleasant 360 bike ride giving you 360 view of the city - both old/inside ancient city and the modern skyscraper outskirts. Amazing and mindblowing

Intact walls are fascinating, wherever they are in the world, as they illustrate the size of a city at a given moment. Examples such as Chester and Berwick-on-Tweed in England, Lugo in Spain, or Lucca in Italy, provide a feature gracing the city/town concerned. Even vestigial remains, such as Wall Street, can be interesting. There a few intact walls as... More

Xian city has realised that it has many tourists staying to visit the Terracotta Warriors 30 minutes bus ride away from town. A lot of effort has been put into restoring the wall which surrounds the old town to ensure that there is another, very good reason to stay awhile. The 4 pickup/drop off where you want to bike hire... More

One of the main things I wanted to do in Xian was the bicycle ride around the city on the wall. We hired bikes, not very expensive but remember the deposit in case you keep the bike!!! We didn't get helmets, they were extra. The bikes were in pretty good nick but the tyres could have been pumped up a... More

This was a signature experience on our recent student tour of China (I was one of the parent chaperones). Riding the entire 14 kilometer (nine mile) wall around the old center of Xian is incredible. The weather was perfect for riding -- no pollution and mostly cloudy (no hot sun beating down on us). We saw a couple having their... More

Lovely inner city within walls, a must see, unfortunately to get to upper walls there are lots of steps to climb.

This was the highlight of our trip. You can take your time riding the 14 km perimeter. Drink plenty water.

we rented a tandem bike and carried our two small kids in the rucksack on our backs. it was a bit of a work out as the wall proved to be longer than we thought. but it was a great way to see a bit more of the city without the traffic. it is very nicely maintained. there is not... More

It was really nice and beautiful. We really enjoyed walking around the city. They had nice shops, a museum and bridges and gardens to view.
