Riding bikes on the city wall was a great and safe way to view the city both old and new. Our tour guide Betty from China odyssey has been the best tour guide. Our son 7 years old got to ride tandem. There was plenty to see and interesting places to stop along the way, eat drink, etc.

The city wall surrounds the old Xi'an. If you can ride, there are bikes for hire to ride the loop (about 14km) best done around sunset, on 1 side of the wall you see the ancient city (or what is left of it) and on the other side the new city. start around 7pm so you get to see it... More

great way to see the entire city. If you hire a bike - make sure you take plenty of water. Very hot and limited shade. Have a giggle and hire one of the double bikes. What a laugh. Nice easy as the surface is reasonably level.

The city wall looked very interesting from the outside and it looks like it has been well maintained. It is 10 miles square around the old city of Xian and has a water-filled moat around it. The corners have Chinese buildings on each corner and the entrance to the old city is through brick arches in the walls. One of... More

The bicycle rental provided on the top is a must. This is the best way to view the wall and the city from above. However, there is no elevator and stairs are very uneven.

Xi'an city wall can be accessed from any of the cardinal points: West, East. North or South. The south gate has been spruced up to have better photo opportunities but that also means more people too! I went up through the West gate and the cost in June 2014 was CNY54 per person. There is less people here. Once you... More

Take the bike ride if you can - and go all the way. It is only 14 kms and although very bumpy in parts, it is really enjoyable. The views of the city - in and outside the wal - are interesting but the wall itself is a very intresting structure and well kept for its age. Take water!!

If you are an avid cyclist but haven't plucked up the courage to ride on the streets of China, the Xi'an city wall is your chance to cycle in safety. This amazing & well maintained 14km wall around the inner city of Xi'an is high above the traffic and cycling is an excellent way to see it and some of... More

Glad that the city administrators saved this gem during their fast growth period of the 80s and 90s. Safe place for bike riding even though we did not do that. Gives a good impression of how cities protected themselves once upon a time.
