I have had the privilege of visiting this wonder of nature twice and have also viewed it from the air on a flight from Taif to Riyadh, it is quite spectacular to see. The walk down to the salt bed can be precarious in places (depending which route you take) but is worth doing and the climb back up can... More

visited the crater last week. the first sight down and around is truly breathtaking and scary. Amazing place to visit in a country with not a lot of touristy places. the drive towards the crater after the diversion from the main road is nice too. would want to climb to the bottom of it next time i visit.

I camped overnight right by the crater's edge min Jan 2013, with 2 friends. the 1st sight was amazing with its size and structuer. best time to visit is winter in general. its about 4 hrs from Jeddah. the clime down isn't very easy, but sure worth it.

This is a unique geological formation located about 100 km away from Ta'if, a city located in the Makkah province of Saudi Arabia. It was on Friday, 16th June 2012, I went in a private taxi, to see a natural geographic formation that is located near my place of work in Al Muwayh. This place is called the Al Wabah... More

We trekked down to the bottom, it was difficult as we were not aware of the proper route. It took nearly two hours to get down there. I would advise you to bring plenty of water. It gets very hot by midday. There is a route down that is just off the road that leads to the crater. We unfortunately... More

An amazing place for overnight camping and BBQ in the Kingdom. It was not very cold in the night but extremely windy; I would recommend bringing warm sleeping bags and a tent. Unfortunately we didn't get down to the crater because we missed the correct trail (where there was significant greenery) when we set out in the morning and it... More

The crater is quite a wonder - especially as you approach it on almost level ground, crossing gravelly flats and suddenly there is a huge hole in the ground with a bright white floor. The scale of this is breathtaking. You can find a lot written on the crater in Wikipedia and you need a good look at a map... More
