I have not expected such a great collection not in the capital. The best of the best Russian artists of 18-20 century, plus icons.

Although the museum is not very much adapted for the foreigners' visits it's worth seeing. A large collection of European and Russian paintings by Perov, Repin, Makovskiy, Kramskoy, Levitan, Korovin, Nesterov, Rerikh, Kustodiev etc. They've also got a considerable arts and crafts collection of XIV-XX century and Russian icons.

The kacca does not have any english signage so it was hard to determine what we wanted to see and pay for. The best we could communicate was to just say all the museum. So, we ended up paying 380/person for all the exhibits. The icons were well presented and there was some english info on the placards. There was... More

Two buildings, 2 floors of a large building in the Kremlin and a smaller branch not far away on the embankment. The Kremlin part has Russian art and artifacts. I really liked the applied art and icons, and also the descriptions in both languages of what each saint is supposed to have done. A fabulous room or two of Reorich's... More

The Arts Musem has two main buildings: (1) one inside the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, and (2) the other one on Verkhne Volzhskaya Naberezhnaya (embankment) which is a good five-seven minute walk from the Kremlin. The Kremlin building hosts an impressive collection of Russian icons, Russian and West European paintings dated 14th-20th century, as well as Soviet-era fine arts. The gem... More
