I took my american friend visiting Russia for the first time on this train ride from St. Petersburg to Moscow. We bought the most expensive (just under $300) tickets to a VIP luxury train car. It's only 4 privat compartments in the car with living/sleeping room with plush red couches, storage for luggage and best of all - your private... More

Clean, comfy, good breakfast, very nice decor. The only downside - they completely turned off the ventilation at night - so, if you're on top berth you'll have nothing to breath with.

A novel and different way to travel between the two cities. We booked our tickets through Express to Russia and it was professional and painless. We boarded the train at Leningradsky station in Moscow, and were amused by the very stern looking conductors standing at attention outside each carriage. We booked first class compartments so we didn't need to share.... More

My wife and I elected to take the Red Arrow from Moscow to St Petersburg, we opted for the First Class compartment. We knew that this train would be slower than the intercity trains and more expensive but wanted to experience this journey and compare with other overnight train rides we have done. This experience did not disappoint. The carriage... More

I decided to take a 4-berth sleeper on a journey from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. I wasn't sure how it would play out not knowing any Russian and being in a compartment with potentially 3 others who may not be so friendly, but it turned out to be a brilliant trip. Both of my berth mates were extremely nice and... More

I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to trains, and this is one of the best. Although the style was uniquely Russian 1960s the train was the most immaculate and comfortable I've ridden. If you enjoy rail travel, especially if you're a party of 4 and can reserve your own cabin, it's an experience not to be missed, best possible... More

I recently went to St. Petersburg, Russia, and wanted to see Moscow too, as I was already on that side of the world, but I didn't want the hassle of booking a hotel room, so I browsed the sleeper trains and found the Red Arrow Express - it's a beautiful, shining red train with interior decor reminiscent of times gone... When arranging our trip to Moscow and St Petersburg as independent travellers not attached to a Tour Group, we (four of us) decided to take the overnight train, for the experience and to save the cost of an hotel. We had read that some websites and travel agents add considerably to the train ticket price, so we followed a guide... More

We took the train from Mowcow to St. Petersburg. It wasn't easy to book the tickets...we tried to book first clase about 2 months ahead (through the website) and then we realized we actually didn't book them. By that time, first class tickets were not available so we took second class (first class: 2 beds per canine, second class: 4... More

Booked a return ticket for Moscow and St Petersburg. It was our first time taking over night train, we were absolutely excited. When the train arrived at the platform, russian music is played, so when you walk to your cart, you feel like you are a VIP. The interior is elegant, bedding and rooms are clean, yummy breakfast provided. Most... More
