We went on a guided tour in S: Petersburg along the Neva Embankments and we looked at many magnificent palaces along the road.

It's probably a stretch to call the Neva Embankments a landmark but one of the top things to do in the Summer, especially during the June White Nights, is to stroll around the embankments (with the best view probably coming around the Palace Bridge and the Strelka of Vasilievsky) and just enjoy the view!

We walked from the Aleksandrovskiy Gardens, Strelka, and the Summer Garden via the Neva Embankment. It was a fine Saturday and many people were fishing, taking a walk, enjoying the view and getting some sun. Views across the Neva were good with the sun shining on buildings and enhancing them. We made a mistake by stopping for a coffee at... More

I loved St Petersburg anyways, it's a fantastic city but this area is great too. We walked around the river banks and enjoyed the views of the city. You get lovely views in lots of different directions. it's amazing how wide the river is. We crossed the bridge near the Winter Palace, there is a small park the other side... More

Get a bottle of beer (or vodka if you are not faint hearted) and go to see the lifting of the bridges. Recommendation: make sure you can make it back to the hotel, the bridges stay up for a few hours...

It's a very impressive location where you can take a boat and how big is a river. From here you can follow the skyline of Saint Petersburg and it' really worth the journey.

An evening river cruise was part of our tour and we enjoyed the cooler temperatures on the river after extreme heat of the day. The view from the river is interesting and picturesque. We also took a walk along the Neva and enjoyed a very pleasant stroll. Watching the young people on Seadoos cruising and doing tricks on the river... More

The best time to take photographs of this beautiful city is in the late afternoon, on the north shore of the Neva, across from the Hermitage. That is when the sun is setting and the warm hues envelope the buildings with softness.

We did the Canal Cruise when visiting St Petersburg as a part of a Baltic Cruise. We were taken to the city by bus. As the traffic was heavy we had a long walk to get to the wharf to board the Canal boat. The cruise was enjoyable in both the canals and the river and gave a good view... More

Small and grand ones: make sure you plan watching the bridges go up one night and see the big ships passing by :-)
