Visited twice. In the morning, it was bright, expansive and the buildings around the square were magnificent. In the night, the square was alive with buskers playing music and people passing by just dancing to the beats. The buildings are wonderfully lit and I recommend a visit both during daylight and night!

The square is big, clean and open. I hear that Stalin planed to take the angel down from the pillar and put a statue of Lenin in stead. That tells us that ones live time is shorter than you think.

A spectacular centre point of a beautiful city. Five minutes walk from Admiralteyskaya metro. There are reasonably priced souvenir stalls and fast food stalls nearby, a Burger King around the corner on Nevsky Prospekt for loos and drinks. Also guides offering boat trips- again most are reasonably priced at R600 (£6.50) an adult. Be aware of pickpockets but there are... More

The sheer size of this square blows the mind. Flanked by wonderful buildings and located near major sites like The Hermitage, it should be on your list. A wonderful area to walk around.

The square is not actually square, as the buildings on one side are curved. What captures the eye is the magnificent Alexander Column soaring to great height and dominating the space, just as the Hermitage Museum dominates one side. The square must be one of the largest open spaces in any city.

I might not be able to put it in exact words about the feeling that I had.. If you stand right at the centre and have a look, suddenly you will realize that you are surrounded by State of the Art Architecture. I realized that I belong here and don't want to go back home. I belong here in SPB... More

We went here a few times in our four day visit, both during the day and at night. This square is massive and very impresive . At night it is all lit up with specially placed spotlights.A must see..

Right in front of hermitage, this square is huge! So many things happening around the square, I'm sure everyone will be passing by here at some point. Since it was summer, locals were just hanging out on the square doing some skate boarding, chatting, drinking...(Which is technically not allowed in Russia?) A good place for photos too!

What a wonderful experience to be in this place of such great historical importance. Each time I visit, I am astounded by the beauty. Everyone should make sure to see Palace Square in the daytime, and in the evening.
