Massive square surrounded by the Winter Palace and vast government buildings. Our tour visited here the day before Russia was going to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Germany and there were extensive displays of military equipment in process and can only imagine what the parade the next day would be like.

Definitely this square is the touristic and official heart of the city. Must visit for a tourist and city visitor. Too pompous, formal and enormous to my mind. The square is the place for all city's major events like Victory Day, Scarlet Sails festival, day of the city 27 May, New Year as well as for rock concerts. Madonna once... More

Huge space with amazing buildings and a Russian marching band. Not sure that they were there every day but they were there for us, in their big bearskin hats. Fantastic.

This is to me the main city centre which must be visited by every tourist going to St. Petersburg. The square is enormous with all kind of activities going on there. There are many souvenir stalls around the square too. You just have enough time to take a photo as proof of visiting the city? ...then this is the place... More

A big square with a lot of people always there. Stand and look around in all directions and you will see great places to photo and visit. At one side of the square is the Hermitage museum and Winter Palace and directly opposite the General Staff Building with a passageway leading to the main shopping area of Nevsky Prospekt. From... Palace Square is quite an experience. The Winter Palace, the General Staff Building the floor and the column, it all creates a fabulous atmosphere. On a sunny day, with a blue sky above you and everything glistening it is almost too much to take in, it is so stunning. There are many souvenir and food stalls around the square perimeter... More

One of the most beatiful square in the world! The Winter Palace, General Staff Building with its magnificent Arch and of course the Alexander Column create the ansamble that breathtakes everyone. Square is wide and spacious, but doesnt make you feel small, instead, you get the feeling being a part of something huge and monumental.

This square is very close to Neva River. The spacious square is mind blowing and great photo stop for tourists. Tourist info counter is located in this square beside mobile toilet facility.
