Most people walk through this Square dominated by the Alexander Column (a favourite meeting place) on their way to The Hermitage entrance. If meeting people here beware as the Square gets closed off periodically for events. I saw a Police Graduation Ceremony, a Street sports event (BMX stunts), and a type of skiing event - see photos. There are public... More

Nevsky Prospect may be the modern center, but this is the traditional center of Russia. It is awe inspiring to stand in the middle of this square. Whereas Red Square in Moscow has a creepy beauty, this place has a elegant beauty rarely seen today.

The palace square is the central point of the city. The monolithic monument in the center is absolutely fantastic, with an interesting historical and engineering story. While visiting the city you'll stop there for sure. Take a few minutes to admire this widespread place.

If you walk from the Admiralty Arch to the Winter Palace, you will have to walk across it. Apart from that, it is not really worth time to visit.

Palace Square is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. It is very balanced with the nature in St. Petersburg. One of the "must see" and "must photograph" squares in the world and I like that they keep it practically "commercial free", in July 2013 we were lucky to listen to a free unforgettable concert; however, last time we... For those interested in the tumultuous history of St Petersburg, a visit to the square and moments of reflection are in order. After all, it all began here in 1917, and the Seige of Leningrad is best contemplated from this location just outside the winter palace and the Hermitage. St Petersburg is a truly beautiful city, and this square is... More

After visiting The Hermitage take time to wander around this square. Take photographs and soak up the atmosphere. You can even take a ride in a horse drawn carriage or have your photograph taken with a costumed lady or gentleman.
