Big Square in St Petersburg

A massive square in the midst of St. Petersburg. Very similar feeling to Red Square and adjacent to the Hermitage museum.

Huge square surrounded by the Hermitage State museum and its associated buildings. There's plenty of buskers and street food vendors here. Very picturesque.

Palace Square is absolutely huge, reminded me of the square in Krakow. A bit barren but houses lots of important Russian historical buildings, can imagine it being crazy at a concert or sports event!

Love the historic square which was the courtyard between the palace and administrative offices for the palace. Not used for public gatherings, concerts, touristy horse and carriage rides and a place for brides- among other things I'm sure. I asked our guide if it was also a place for demonstrations ( knowing Russia isn't a place for that kind of... More

Everything is so large in St Petersburg and the same is true of this Square. It's a great place to take pictures and to walk around

Truly a grand square. Built to mirror others from around the world. This is a beautiful place and grand entrance to the city. Easy to walk from here to The Church of the Spilt Blood and onto Nevsky Prospect.

A square that faces the hermitage..a nice place to spend some time and take photos. There is a column of Peter the great that commemorate his victories. Enjoy.

The sheer size is awesome and the place is worth seeing. However, not much time is required and one can spend as little as 15 minutes

this place is always full of people coming to Hermitage museum. It is a big square. That statue in the middle of the square is impressive too. It is close to Nevsky Square.

Most tourists venture down to Palace Square during the day to visit the Hermitage/Winter Palace, but the locale is well worth a bit of 'a butcher's' at night too. The lit-up Hermitage looks spectacular at nightfall (in August this means after about 10pm!) as does the Carlo Rossi-designed arch of the adjacent General Staff Building. The massive square is relatively... More
