It's in the same compound as Hermitage Museum and with the same admission tickets. Hidden in the gallery are Grand Master artworks. Saw my 1st Van Gough, up close (1 arm lenght away). plus many others.

It was snowing when we visited, so the whole square had a feel of fairytale about it. The area is huge and your imagination does not have much work to do to envisage the carriages and processions that used to take place here.

We walked through Palace Square when walking into and exiting the Hermitage. It was under a blanket of snow with plenty of people pottering about, souvenir and coffee stalls about to get a little something to bring home and a hot drink.

We briefly visited the square when we went to the Hermitage museum, but we returned later and its amazing at night, the lights give it another look.

On our way to visit the Palace we stopped for 20minutes to watch the light show. It was very well done, the crowds were managed well by the police and we really enjoyed it. Well worth a visit!
