Palace Square is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. It is very balanced with the nature in St. Petersburg. One of the "must see" and "must photograph" squares in the world and I like that they keep it practically "commercial free", in July 2013 we were lucky to listen to a free unforgettable concert; however, last time we... For those interested in the tumultuous history of St Petersburg, a visit to the square and moments of reflection are in order. After all, it all began here in 1917, and the Seige of Leningrad is best contemplated from this location just outside the winter palace and the Hermitage. St Petersburg is a truly beautiful city, and this square is... More

After visiting The Hermitage take time to wander around this square. Take photographs and soak up the atmosphere. You can even take a ride in a horse drawn carriage or have your photograph taken with a costumed lady or gentleman.

The square is huge. Some big concerts or events are hosted there. Good place for panoramic pictures of Winter Palace.

It is a very nice place with nice building around and you need to visit the winter palace there , there is a nice chance to see a performance for some music groups there and if there is a celebration it is also near to one of the open bridges that open at 1:30 am

This is a cool square adjacent to the hermitage/winter palace. I wouldn't plan on coming here unless I were going to the hermitage. It is just another "town square" with some cool photo ops. If you, have such little time that you aren't visiting the WP it is probably a waste of your time to come go see a cathedral.
