To be sure the museum is an enormous treasure trove of cannon, vehicles, uniforms, ancient guns, dioramas and such - but it is also reads like a history book of Russia and is part of the integral culture of Petersburg, which historically, was always a military town. As you progress through the museum you also progress through the many wars... more

For a military history buff, this museum is a must-see. The outdoor vehicle collection is on par with that at Aberdeen Proving Ground, and the indoor exhibits far surpasses that US museum. It's located just behind the Peter and Paul Fortress, less than a five minute walk from either entrance to the fortress. I think I paid 300 rubles ($12... more
