The theatre itself is a little worn, but still impressive. We had great seats in a box in the dress circle, with a fabulous view of the theatre and the stage. We saw Swan Lake and to be honest, we were expecting it to be a bit of an endurance test since we don't know much about ballet. Instead, the... More

My whole trip was on the purpose to see the theater itself, as I have been following the Mariinsky ballet on tours in the USA. I was lucky that they had a great selection of ballets the week(s) i visited. I loved the theater, it has a better organized, more intimate, cosier feel than the Bolshoi (visited in January 2012). The building is quite outstanding, if some way from the main street of this great city. I wish that I could of seen inside but at the time of my visit this was not possible, I would imagine that seeing a classic performed here would be an unforgettable experience. Take an organised tour if you don`t speak Russian. More

Great theatre to watch ballet. The surroundings inside sets the atmosphere perfectly. Only minus would be that it was a bit crowded inside the booth we where sitting. They even allowed people to stand behind us, since there where no more chairs... If you want to have a great view, i recommend getting the chairs that are all the way... More

My visit fell into the camp of every other 3* review out there - once the ballet itself started, it was a wonderful performance. However, I struggled to find anyone speaking English when getting tickets, took absolutely ages getting served at the bar and then had my jacket misplaced in the cloakroom. Having read the other reviews, it seems that... More
