This cathedral, located inside the fortress built during the early years of St. Petersburg is quite different from most other churches I visited in Russia. The ceilings are very high and the building has a very sleek and elegant feel to it. And inside the cathedral is not as heavily decorated as in most other orthodox churches. I found the... more

The church is within the ground of the St Peter and Paul fortress and is the last resting place of numerous tsars. It contains the tomb of Peter the Great and also a chapel which contains the remains of the last of the Romanovs and their faithful servants.
