The church was built in memory of a tsar who was killed by a bomb. It looks like St Basils cathedral on the Red Square, but the interior is really impressive and you can feel that it symbolises the memory of a great Tsar who fell victim to the social changes he made possible.

On September 4th and September 6th 2015, my wife and I visited the Church on the Spilled Blood, also known as the Church of the Resurrection. On the 4th from the Petro Palace Hotel we strolled along the Nevskiy Prospect and arrived at the Church to mostly tour the outside, to see the souvenir merchants and the park in the... More

The history of this church links to the assassination of Alexander II. The details of the interior are breathtaking.

The architecture is simply amazing - you think the outside cannot be beaten, but then you go inside and are amazed all over again !

We had already booked our guide for the next day for our tours and knew we were coming back. The building in the daylight was not... More

I visited here several years ago and unfortunately this church was shrouded in scaffolding so I was so pleased to see that this time all the renovations were completed. This is such a beautiful church and a must for any visitor. It can be viewed from a river cruise also as the boats pass by it to the left of... More

What I find so wonderful about Russian orthodox churches is the magnificent mural decoration which, set in a warm, carpeted surroundings with chanting, is comforting.A complete and reassuring contrast to the plain and austere Presbyterian kirks in Scotland where I was brought up. The church was raised as a memorial in the place of assasination of Tsar Alexander 2nd and the... More

One of the greatest sights I have seen on my many travels. Both the inside and outside of the church are something to be seen. For the outside, the views are spectacular, from near and far. On the inside the stunning array are just awe inspiring. Based on everything I had heard/read I had high expectations, but even so, it... More
