A work of art in itself the building is an example of russian opulence and excess. The decorations are breathtaking. The sound was very good. While we expected toxedoes and black ties I believe that a decent jacket will suffice. Lots of foreigners and relatively friendly people. The balet tickets where excessively expensive at aprox. $300 a piece so we... More

The theater is beautiful both out and inside. I watched a superb performance of the Bolshoi Ballet main cast here and will never forget it.

+ Stunning exterior and interior; incredible performance; a great experience on the evening of our 25th wedding anniversary - Bar prices were super expensive.

There are only two English tours a week, one on Friday and the other on Monday. The spaces are very limited and you cannot purchase tickets ahead of time. There is a terrible crush at the door to try and get one of the few tickets. There should be a better way to do this! Once you are inside, you... More

It was one of the most amazing performances. I had attended a lot of theatre performances - in SF, LA, NY, HK, Milan, Florence, Vienna, and Berlin. The Bolshoi theatre really standout. We saw Lady of the Camelia that night. If you go online, Be sure to buy tickets only from the official website just to be safe. There are... More

If like me you find the cost of tickets to see a show at the Bolshoi Old Theatre prohibitive, why not take a comprehensive guided tour for 500 rubles. The problem is there are only 2 tours per week, that is right 2! and you cannot book ahead. The current tour status is Monday and Friday, at 12:30 pm for... More

Prior to returning to Hong Kong after completing the Trans-Siberian Railway Tour (9,288 km in total), I spent one night in Moscow. Apart from taking a leisurely afternoon tea in the cafe near Red Square, on my friend's persuasion, I bought a ticket of 6,000 rubles for the opera "Don Carlo" at the Bolshoi Theater. I was impressed with the... More

We saw Bizet's Carmen at the New Stage - more intimate than the Historic Stage but a wonderful experience. From the moment of entry it felt like being in a different world - from the snacks and drinks in the bar ( never mind the process!) to the helpful cloakroom staff there was a VIP feel throughout. Great seats in... More

Rich country, rich culture. We saw Swan lake. Everywhere covered with gold after several years renovation. Anyhow, changed excellently. Unforgettable memory and experience in Bolshoi theater. Ticket prices are rather high, but you should reserve ticket in advance. Some famous ballet tickets are generally sold out before months earlier. You should wear costume, it's an etiquette at least. Also, do... More

Very interesting to know the history of one of the most famous theatres and visit its venues. But to visit it, if you don't speak Russian there are only two options: Monday and Friday, at 12:30 pm. Groups of 15-20 at maximum, can visit in a guided tour. Russian speakers have those times and also on Wednesdays. Arrive early, because... More
