We very much enjoyed the recently renovated Gorky Park. It was great for a stroll, lots of people watching, lovely fountains, and cafes (with beer). There are giant “pillows” throughout the park that visitors can lounge on, but a picnic blanket would do just as well.

This place in winter is great if you're an avid ice skater. They flood the park--quite literally--and one can skate any/every where. However, for those that don't skate, it's quite treacherous to walk. Don't recommend going in winter if you don't skate.
