The Metropolitan Cathedral was built between 1936-1941 in Moldavian-Byzantine style and was consecrated in 1946 in the presence of King Mihai I of Romania and the PM Petru Groza. The cathedral contains the relics of the New Saint Josepf from Partos ( Sfantul Iosif cel Nou de la Partos), the protector of the orthodox community in the region Banat. It... More

When visiting Timisoara the Cathedral and the surrounding parks are a must. The former Opera Aquare is still as beautiful as it used to be long time ago.

We found the orthodox cathedral in the center of Timisoara to be a beautiful, well maintained church. We feel it definitely should be visited when in Timisoara.

We arrived in Timisoara on a Sunday after a very slow and hot train journey. The Cathedral dominates the skyline on the way in to the centre so we decided to stop off and have a look. The evening service had just started and the chanting/song was very powerful and moving, and experience that will stay with as a non-religious... More

Located pretty much at the center of town, it is an attraction not to miss for that perfect post card picture (or Instagram) shot. Not only is it a beautiful structure, but it also holds a number of historical and religious artifacts. Normally the door in front remains closed, but there is a side door just to the left for... it's nothing out of the ordinary, nor in size or architecture. It' an orthodox church built during the 20th century and it's located in the center if town. It's handy to visit the churh and it's worth 10 minutes to get an idea of it. Sometimes you can hear outside the curch the cermon, and it's a crowded place especially... More
