Visited after almost 10 years, this is a beautiful place of worship and very dear to the local people of any faith, one of the 'centerpieces' of the town. Many don't know that 25 years ago many people were shot on the steps in front of the cathedral, shot by their own army and militia during the Romanian People's revolution... More

This was my first visit to a "working" orthodox cathedral (apart from Hagia Sophia in Istanbul) and was very interesting from that point of view alone. The gilding of the icons was most eye catching, as were the actions of the supplicants. Outside I noted a plaque that stated that it was completed in 1936, which greatly surprised me, as... More

This cathedral may not be the biggest one or the most important one in the World, but it is probably one of the most beautiful cathedrals I've ever seen. Specially for an orthodox cathedral. If you go to Timisoara, it's a most, and most likely it's one of the very first things you will able to see while being downtown.... More

We visited this orthodox cathedral with our guide, as part of a tour. It is a very impressive building, located at the end of the pedestrian mall in Timisoara. The day we visited, a long queue was forming to view a relic, but this did not impede our visit. It is typical of all the orthodox churches and cathedrals we... More

Very impressive architecture and the square around it is also meaning to the history and freedom of the Romanian people. The revolution against the communist system in Romania started in Timisoara. Timisoara is considered by many to be the spiritual capital of the country. It is a symbol of the revolution (and) it is a symbol of freedom.
