I visited the park with guests and i am happy to tell you that the larger than life statues of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and company survived the water surge and strong winds brought by ST Haiyan last Nov. 8,2014. The park remains to be a must see when coming to Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines

Well it was pouring so I had been soaked for a few days, what was a little more water? I couldn't believe it was still in place after Yolanda. We had the place to ourselves except for a wild Japanese tourist (I know-right?). It's a moving sight, a pretty view, and survived quite well. There was one guy selling pineapples... More

When we visited it was very quiet, only a couple of other people there. We took a jeepney from Tacloban, about 15 minutes journey, the jeepney dropped us right by the memorial. There are several food stalls where you can buy cold drinks and snacks just a few minutes from the memorial. The memorial is stunning, larger than life statues... More

I main reason for visiting Leyte was to see the landing site for MacArthur's return to the Phillipines. It is a very nice memorial and statues. Well worth it for the history. As several reviews have stated the area is in bad need for a good cleaning. Sadly, no flags were flying. It would be nice if they had a... More

Today I took a jeepney from Tacloban to Red Beach. Very impressive statues of a most important event in Filipino history. It is in a beautiful setting on the water. The grounds however need better upkeep. The pool in which the statues stand was very murky. Be sure to look at the plaques from the leaders of many nations in... More

Another important attraction you should not miss is Leyte Landing Memorial. You can have your pictures taken while repeating Gen. Douglas MacArthur's words, "I shall return." The place was very clean and enough space for parking cars, even buses. I strongly suggest you come here early in the morning or before sunset for better photos. Bring your umbrellas because there... The Leyte Landing Memorial is a short 5 minute walk from the Oriental Leyte, where my husband and I were staying during a recent weekend visit to Tacloban. The memorial is set in the middle of a beautiful park with large stretches of lawn and plenty of shaded areas, just steps from Red Beach. There were a handful of street... More

This is in my opinion a better historical monument than most other statues I've seen around the Philippines. First of all, it's picturesque because of the view of the China Sea as backdrop. It's a relaxing place to visit since it isn't crowded. You can have a picnic beside the park. It's worth visiting even only for taking pictures.
