This can be seen at the back of the Santo Nino Basilica. It's worth a quick stop if you would be passing the area. There are a lot of vendors selling colorful candles. There are paintings on the ceiling telling the story of how Catholicism came to the Philippines.

once again, it's a cross... i guess you have to appreciate history a lot to get it. but if you're into Philippine history and you like checking out artifacts, it wouldn't hurt to check it out

This place is near Sto. Nino Basilica and worth a quick visit. The original cross is enclosed in a wooden cross. It is a great backdrop for pictures. Worth the quick stop if visiting the nearby church.

This is the site where the cross was first planted by Magellan when he landed in Cebu Island on Easter Sunday. The original cross was said to be embedded in the wooden cross that now stands at this site. When you buy a colored candle or two here, the devotional ladies who sell the candles will ask you for your... More

The cross itself was unimpressive. Much more couldhave beensaid about the background, the history or the conditions of the time. The "candle sellers" were an unnecessary nuisance. Wortha stop if you are at the Basillica, but don't make a specialtrip.

It is a tourist spot. To me its a marker in downtown. Its just outside St. Nino Church. But everyone should be very careful and be aware that snatchers and robbers could be just around the corner lurking. Well not just in this place but in downtown mainly.

the painting on the ceiling is awesome. the ladies outside chants prayers for you if you buy candles from them, be careful because they will ask for your name and then they will start their chant and dance, and then you'll feel obliged to give a "donation", and they are very persistent. But this is a MUST see if you're... More

From what I understand, the mast of Magellan's ship was made into a cross and remnants of the "mast-cross" are encased in a big cross seen in the picture. It's inside a beautiful pavillon just outside Santo Nino Basilica. Be sure to get a photo of the beautiful ceiling artwork. Be on guard. As soon as you get close, you... More

You must visit Magellan's Cross if visiting Cebu for the first time, period. Watch your step when entering... I was looking at the cross instead of at the ground and tripped over the high threshold.
