We had lunch at the most beautiful tranquil setting overlooking the lake. It was just gorgeous sitting looking out over the lake, I would recommend visiting, also the food was delicious.

The way to visit the island is via a day boat. As part of a group of 18 we stayed overnight at the Taquile Village House. The island is quite pretty, there is little interaction with the locals and when there is they put their hands out for money (particularly if you want to take a photograph). The "Village House"... After visiting the Uros Islands we headed to Taquille which was far more interesting. Yes, the climb up to the main square is a bit of an effort at this altitude but so long as you walk slowly it isn't a real problem. To see local men knitting traditional hats etc was fascinating and having lunch overlooking the lake towards... More

What a lovely island with lovely people. It's a glimpse into the history of Peru where things are still done the old-fashioned way and traditions are highly regarded. We had a lovely lunch at a large table overlooking the water. The food was delicious. You don't really interact with the locals as much as observe their culture. If you have... More

In June I spent 2 days on Taquile Island and stayed with Celso and his beautiful family. I got his phone number from another traveller and called the day before I arrived to make sure he is able to host me. Celso will come to the main square at the island to pick you up after your boat arrives. The... More

Great little island. No cars to be seen so lots of walking up and down. Beautiful scenery. We got to spend lunch at a local's house turned entertainment area. The family cooked us a lovely dinner and performed dances for us in traditional clothing. The kids came home from school and also work the same style so it was a... More

Kayaked out to the Taquile Island and spent the night with a family. The culture is unique, especially the social customs involving hat making by men and dress codes. Unless you speak Spanish or a local dialect, your only real contact with the people will be through a tour guide for very short periods of time. Taquile does offer terrific... More

Make sure your breathing is good before undertaking this trip as the climb over the island is quite steep! Fascinating to see how the islanders eke out a living in this island in the middle of Lake Titicaca.

Visited this island after a homestay on Amantani and it was really worth it. Steep climb up from our boat but slow and steady does it at high altitude. Lots of nice views to catch your breath. The climb down to the boat which had moved to another harbour was equally challenging; we were told 500 steps down. Manageable steps... More

Although the hike is somewhat of a climb at high altitude, it was fun. It gives you a chance to see not only the island, but the beautiful views. The trout lunch was excellent.
