Taquile is a marvelous island where time has been shot off. The Taquile people, incredible weavers, have remained aloof of the world. It is a magnificent experience for the soul just to roam around in peace with the world and you.

Such a beautiful and perfect little island! We arrived on a festival day and had great fun watching the celebrations by the local people in the square. We loved it so much we managed to arrange some local accommodation for the night and had dinner in a family restaurant completely to ourselves. Best of all we got engaged on top... More

Taquile Island is a 2 1/2 hour boat ride from Puno, one way... that's the bad part as there is little to see on route. But once you reach the island you are immediately treated to a time warp. Docking on the other side of the island you disembark and walk up a moderately steep cement pathway for about 20... More

Where else can tourists learn more about the traditions and customs of the indigena people ? If you do not like touristic places at all, do go here, but if you want to learn about the traditional dances, the costumes and the customs, this island is a must.

I liked the walks to the top of the island and back down with wonderful views. The information regarding the knitting activities of the men and the weaving activities of the women, including the use of their own hair as strengthening of the waist supports for the men when they carrying of items was interesting. Our lunch was delicious. Our... More

A very unique island with interesting culture. The men wear colourful hats that they knit themselves. Our tour included a lunch with soup, pan fried fresh trout, potatoes and veggies. The hosts also entertained us with music and dance while we ate. However to get there, we had to climb quite a ways in very high altitude. Not good for... More

I think anyone that has raved about Taquile has never been to Amantani, or even Uros. We did the usual boat trip out of Puno to Uros then stayed on Amantani and the next day we visited Taquile. Our view could have been slightly tainted by the fact that we had a wonderful stay on Amantani the previous night with... More

Very interesting island and people. The climb up the hill to the town will challenge your altitude preparedness. Lunch here will likely be the best trout you will ever eat.

What an awesome experience! There is no police station on this small island / community. However, three rules exist: No Lazy, No Steal, and No Cheat! I loved it – I visited on a Sunday so the main square was quiet (World Cup too) but had a great time non-the-less. Our tour included lunch on the island, it included a... More

I visited Taquile as part of a day long tour which first stopped at the Uros Floating Islands. I much preferred Taquile as it was stunningly gorgeous and while the locals did offer to sell stuff, we were not pressured as we were on the Uros. Condor, our tour company, lands on a different part of the island that most... More
