Nice setting and scenery, nice walks in a spectacular scenery. Do not expect the Grand Canyon (USA), but the beauty here is that you do not have to share the spot with thousands of other people, that you have to drive up there and do not find an infrastructure which gives you the feeling that you are in Disneyland. Much... More

Saying that the views are magnificent is an understatement, as you will never get enough of it. But Oman is absolutely blessed with these "Green Mountains". Trekking lovers can choose and enjoy options of paths, which are clearly marked, from grade 1 (easiest) to grade 3. Good outdoor activities for family while enjoying the local traditions, nature and cultures. Springtime... More

ADVENTURE IN OMAN - ANCIENT, ARABIAN, BIBLICAL, SERENE Setting the scene for this exotica in Jabal Akhdar . . . Sun-block on, smelling freshly (and a little Arabic) from the local juniper berry and rose soap, I walk down steps of simply planed tree trunks in a hotel designed to resemble stone houses in the abandoned village of Sirab in... We spent several days exploring Jebel Akhdar. I highly recommend taking advantage of the compulsory 4x4 you will have to hire to explore some of the smaller tracks to visit deserted villages and explore wadis.

A pleasant walk through the abandoned old village of Birkhat al Mawz. The 300(+) year old mudbrick houses stand precariously in a haunting environment and one's imagination tried to conjure up daily life when the village was inhabited......

Oman is full of spectacular scenery and jebel Akhdar contains some of it. However, after visiting Jebel Shams, and taking the outstanding mountain route through Wadi ban Auf, I found jebel Akdar a bit disappointing. Perhaps its the fact there is an excellent paved road all the way, and the fact that the villages are therefore more accessible and developed?... More

Well worth the visit. You will need a 4WD to get past the police checkpoint. Road is fully tarmac'd so easy driving but perhaps lacks the excitement of Jebel Shams for people who want to get off the beaten track.
