Don't bother trying to go!! Try one rarely visited fort, Samail Castle halfway to Niwas, you may be the only person looking round!

Obviously we didn't see the caves. It would have been helpful if they could put a up a sign on the main road saying "Caves closed" to save the frustration, time and disappointment.

unfortunately the caves were closed when we arrived due to the heavy rain that had done damage. We had visited the caves two years ago and it was an amazing experience with the most unbelievable underground caverns cave lakes, stalagmites & stalactites. if you visit nothing else in the area this is a must!

On my trip to Nizwa I had planned to visit Al Hoota Caves and take my inlaws to see the same. But I called them on 00968 244 98 258 and luckily they answered and said that they are closed for maintenance and are due to open for the New Year. Call the number before you'll plan a trip there.

I've tried twice this year to visit the cave. The first time the cave was closed for service but there was access to the Museum. The second time I phoned first to check and there was an automated answer system informing people the opening times for the cave, so once again I drove from Muscat only to find that this... More

I visited the caves in January 2012, The whole place is well maintained and the staff were helpfull with details, But to our disappointment the train service was not available due to maintenance work. So had to walk along the track but that too was enjoyable. Inside it was a new world and one can see and amaze at the... More

Well it looks good from outside the locked gates, as I peered in with my disappointed young children. One day perhaps we will be lucky enough to visit on a blue moon when it's open.....

I wanted to visit the cave but I discovered that it was closed. The reason adduced was "service" which problably means "renovation". They told me that reopening (insh Allah) is expected in July 2013. Anyway, I noticed that the site is surrounded by a modern visitor centre. If you go to the cave and find it still closed, I suggest... More

During the 6+ years I have been living in Oman, I tried quite a few times to visit Al Hoota cave, and all but once it was closed without any further notice of possible reopening. If open, it is really a great place to visit, and there is even asmall but very interesting museum there. But the appaling thing about... More
