We passed by Al Hoota cave and found it to be closed, which we thought was because it was a Monday. On checking with our hotel, Golden Tulip in Nizwa, the concierge told us the cave has been closed for some time for safety reasons and there is no indication when it will reopen.

We spent considerable time finding the caves only to find (although at the open times indicated on the gate) them closed, with no explanation whatever. Several other cars arrived at the same time. An emergency can happen anywhere (if it were such a thing) but not even a handwritten note on the gate shows not respect for guests who have... More

According to our hotelier this has been closed for 3 years now and the government is not saying when it will re-open. Do not put this on your to-do list!

This is a little bit difficult to find as most of the signs and gps spelling are different. So you will have to try different frenetic spelling options. But if you follow the road out of Nizwa you will see a few brown signs off the main highway, but then the signs become less obvious. But it is worth the... More

A must to be visited if you are in Oman. This a cave is usually closed due to maintenance most of the time, so it is advised to call first on +968 24498258 to inquiry before travelling. In case you forget to call, then there is access to Souvenir shops, museum, restaurants just at main entrance of the cave. From... More

Tried to visit the cave in April 2014. One of the best signposted attractions in Oman, but when we arrived the cave was closed.

Don't bother trying to go!! Try one rarely visited fort, Samail Castle halfway to Niwas, you may be the only person looking round!
