Well worth the tortuous drive up there. Very windy and dusty when we were there. Whilst the dust in the air detracts from the photos, Photoshop can take care of most of it.

This is an intense off roading adventure which if handled correctly can be the drive of the lifetime. The views are incredible and most of the road snakes, dips, and goes up and down. Its predominately unpaved and you need to be careful of where your tires are going to hit when your making turns at high speeds. I was... More

If you have time when in Nizwa, it is worth a drive up to Jebel Shams to marvel at the unique landscape. With the exception of about 7 - 8 miles, the road is in good condition and contrary to reports about dangerous drivers in Oman, we encountered no problems (as in the rest of Oman). The landscape from Nizwa... More

This path is pretty challenging, but the views (and photo ops) are spectacular and the remains of the village at the head of the canyon really interesting. The path is very clear and well-maintained, but is some spots involves some pretty steep scrambles over boulders.

Absolutely amazing. And beautifully preserved, with rest stops made from local materials. Great hiking. Great birds.

Spent an overnight at Jabel Shams Resort. The walk to the edge of the canyon takes only a few minutes and is well worth it. The view is breathtaking. It is worth sitting and just being amazed by what is before you. The following day we took a 4x4 drive through the canyon which is in parts literally a car... More

Much smaller than our Grand Canyon but still very impressive. Try to explore the wadi by 4WD after viewing from above.

The title says it all. Well worth seeing - we stayed at the Jebel Shems Resort - Sunset spectacular! Drive more comfortable in a 4X4 but "do-able" in a saloon car. Temperature down from 35 in the plains to 25 °C. Wonderful

Worth seeking out and finding the shady picnic spots as you drive along the Wadi bed up to the dam-wall.
