The road trip in 4x4 was spectacular, constantly ever changing mountaineous landscape of different kinds and colours, highlighted by the odd greeneries and local style buildings. As other reviews said previously, worthy of the Grand Canyon in the USA. The roads are in excellent condition and well maintained. Can be a little cold in the winter months.

Drove up to wadi Ghul in 4x4 but can be done in a sedan as some more adventurous than I did. Not very well sign posted but a terrific meandering drive and fun dirt roads to trundle up. Wadi ghul was awe inspiring and a really worth the drive. On a side note the hotel/ resort called Jebel Shams Resort... More

Worthy of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, this dry and desolate gorge is huge and inspiring. The hike is not too difficult and presents ever changing views. Make sure you make it all the way to the end to the ruined village. Beyond the ruins, the going gets a bit tougher (take a guide), but the natural spring and water... More

Just as impressive as the Grand Canyon in the US. Glad we had the opportunity to experience it in the winter. The weather was very pleasant.

The canyon and surrounding mountains are pretty impressive. Breathtaking views everywhere u look especially at sunrise and sunset. A highly recommended attraction in beautiful oman. Trekking is difficult for families with kids.

OK, I'm spoiled by lots of time in the USA southwest. Yes, there is a canyon and it is impressive but there is no comparison. It is the whole area, wonderful mountains, bleak landscape that makes it worth going. Unfortunately, some visitors strew garbage and make it unpleasant for others.

It's hard to take in from the top, but the views are spectacular. The drive to the top of Jebel Shams is much harder than nearby Jebel Akdar and I wouldn't do it without the 4x4, but there is no police check point to stop you trying in a 2WD. If you have time do drive into the Wadi on... More

Explore the wadis, the old city ruins and take in the majestic scenery. We enjoyed both hikes and off road driving in the area, and were especially pleased that we would find little gems without the tourist crowds that you most often find at destinations like this.

Not to miss, but is is a long way to do and really fascinating in every way. Up to more than 2000 m high and you need a lot of experience. Otherwise better take a good driver. Wonderful.
