Small but nicely built and very well conserved, the Medina of Essaouira is a place which you can visit peacefully not disturbed by traffic as in other cities. It has all the ingredients of a medina without the disadventages, so you can enjoy your visit seeing the carpets, paintings and ceramics, and admire the Atlantic from the top of the... More

The souk remains very authentic providing predominantly local people with food and other goods. Other parts are however very touristic differing little from other tourist places all over the mediterenian countries. More

After the madness of Marrakesh this was just so relaxed. The walk through the medina was pleasant, nobody hassled you to buy and drag you into shops. It was however the same old stuff with a bit of very nice wooden furniture thrown in. We found a lovely little square just off the fruit and veg market where we had lunch... More

Some hassling but not as much as other places. Besides, that's what Morocco is all about. I strongly suggest that travelers save some money for shopping here. It was my last stop and I thought it was going to be all beaches and food, but the shopping is the best in Morocco. More

when you walk by 1/2 a steer on a hook, a poultry vendor, and a fish stall, you know you're not in a market for tourists. The main street medina of Essaouira is for the people who live here. Wonderful to see. The tourist goods are off on other streets. More

Much easier to navigate than most souks, with the smell of thuya wood, tajines, leather, spices, and the Gnaoua music always in the distance. Safe, friendly and wonderful merchandise. More
