I have just spent 10 days in the beautiful marine park of the Perhentian Islands. We visited the 'village' on Cecil and was devastated to see that a shop was selling live baby turtles. The shop is part of the MJ or JM Cafe. The cafe is to the right of the jetty and the shop is on the left... More

Having considered carefully a number of islands along the Malaysian and Thailand coast, we settled with the Perhentian's (over Tioman) due to the rating of it's beaches, coral, and fish, and it's more undeveloped tourism trade. We found the islands to be beautiful and peaceful, the beaches white and the shallow sea picturesque blue. Take care on the timing of... More

I've been to Perhentian 3 times and each visit has offered me the best snorkeling experiences of my life. The coral is shallow, thus easy to see. It is often very close to shore so boats are not required. And the sea life is fabulous--rays, trigger fish, sharks and turtles all while snorkelling. Beware, the the hotels and restaurants are... We are from UK but were told about the beauty of the islands by to Malaysian friends. Had heard others who had been to Lankawi and that it was very touristy and built up so expected a bit of that. We were so surprised when we got to the islands and saw how remote, natural and underdeveloped they were. Lots... More

We stayed on the big island. We did lots of hiking on both islands. We stayed at coral view and was able to see big black monkeys with white around the eyes in the morning and afternoon from our hut. We also saw flying squirrel with a little baby. We did walks near flora bay and saw huge monitor lizards... More

If you are looking for a quite little piece of heaven, then you gotta visit Perhentian Islands! The two Islands are very simple, nice small beach, crystal clear water, perfect for marine activities… no five stars hotels and resorts, no shopping malls, no souvenir shops not even streets… the chalets there are simple, they range from small rundown rooms with... I had not been to Perhentian for almost 30 years - there weren't any chalets back then. Now, there are plenty of hotels/chalets and restaurants. Visibility is good, even off the resorts, namely at Abdul's and Coral View, with plenty of fishes (loads of parrot fish) and hard corals. You do get some patches of soft corals in some places,... Went for a short getaway for 4days 3 nights to perhentian island and took a nearby day tour to rawa island. Clear water and big parrot fish with amazing snorkelling experience! Highly recommended for nature lovers!
