I went there today and had a 30-minute walk around the forest but there are no birds to see at all. Of course the birds have their own free wild life so they are not supposed to wait for tourists to stare at them, but, well, maybe the place should be renamed to just "Mangrove forest" or something... If you... More

We went later in the day (4 pm) which by then, most of the birds were already roosting for the night. So, the prevalent species we saw was junk in the water. And lots of it - plastic bottles, flip flops, plastic bags, etc. On the bright side, it was a nice walk and shaded in many areas by the... More

I walked to the Bird Sanctuary / Wetlands Centre early one morning via Signal Hill and returned after spending 2 hours there along the coast road. You need to be there early to see the birds and I entered before the place was officially open for the day. I saw Collared and Common Kingfishers, Purple and Little Herons, Spectacled and... More

Kota Kinabalu bird sanctuary and the wetlands centre are the same place, just to save some confusion. The place was just awful. We didn't see any birds and we were there for hours. The only animals we saw were crabs and two little lizards. Look around the place though and you can see why. The water is vile, layered with... More

One and the same place so you aren't lost as we thought we were. As already said of the wetlands, this attractions needs TLC and a cleanup.

Can be interesting for those who wants to learn more on the fragile eco-system of mangrove swamp. For birders who like to observe 'water birds' at close encounter, this is a good place to be as the place provide a bird observation platform.

Our walk was quite nice but we didn't see many birds (we also were the only visitors). We also didn't find a nice way to walk there, we just went along the street and on the way down to the Wetlands and also on the way back nice lokal people stopped and gave us a ride - we were really... More
