Mainly all the stalls were selling the same thing. Been once is enough for me. Filipino market also sells the same stuff so it's so-so for me.

In the famous Gaya Street Sunday Market, you get to shop for souvenirs, such as key chains, bracelets, accessories, sea shells, handicrafts, batik, and etc.
Don't forget to bargin. Although the things are already affordable you can normally be able to bargin a few ringgit less.

This market is busy and fun and sells almost anything. No major surprises compared to other Asian markets. The usual items are for sale, local paintings, puppies, rabbits, sea shells, and cheap toys from China. It is a good place to spend an hour or so wondering around enjoying the sites.

All the usual stuff, clothes, food and a very good coffee shop. Also a foot massage place. Handily placed for a big Western style supermaket too, just along the road.
Good place to spend an hour or so and cleaner than some south Asian markets.

The market is clearly very popular as it is crowded with locals and tourists. it is very hot and you need to bring lots of water. Good value for souvenirs like fun t-shirts etc. Our experience was negatively impacted by several stalls selling animals and the animals being kept in very poor conditions e.g. 6 puppies crammed in a metal...

Buy your souvenirs at this market. Instead of buying it at individual attractions, you can get most items here for much cheaper prices. Bought 20 keychains, all wooden and different types for RM20 (~$7) and 3 freedge magents for RM10 (~$3.50). Round neck T-shirts go from anywhere between RM15 to RM30. Make sure you haggle with the prices before paying,...

There are many flights arriving into Kota Kinabalu and after checking into your hotel, U may want to rent a car to proceed to this Sunday Market, longest market selling practically everything. You can find very special species of wild orchids to bring back but watch the authority may not allow you to take on board.

Great market located on Gaya Street every Sunday morning. Souvenir stalls and fake designer products mixed in with local produce, food and craft. Also animals for sale which can be a little confronting.
Best to start early (around 7am is ideal) to avoid the heat and the crowds. Really busy after 9am. Bring lots of water and toilet paper.

KK is a very touristy town, so my feel towards the markets was a little hesitant to begin with. We went with a specific list of souvenirs in mind and ended up buying a couple extra. It is very similar to most markets in tourist destinations, but for us the convenience of location and time was a plus.
